Johnson C. Smith University invites dynamic and dedicated applicants for the role of Assistant Professor of Chemistry in the Department of Natural and Behavioral Sciences. This position offers an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant academic community committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach physical chemistry, general chemistry, analytical chemistry & instrumental analysis, along with introductory chemistry courses and non-majors science courses. The ability to teach other STEM courses would be desirable. Other responsibilities include research, professional activity, and service to both the University and community. Involving students in research activities is highly desirable. The faculty member will be required to evaluate and use current technology in courses and to maintain a positive educational relationship with students and colleagues. Other duties include academic advising, curriculum development, and committee service and performing other duties required to meet organizational needs.
The ideal candidate will be an exceptional teacher and advisor with strong communication and interpersonal skills. They will demonstrate a clear understanding of the curriculum and a commitment to engaging in meaningful scholarship, publications, and research within the discipline. The successful candidate will contribute to the academic growth of both majors and non-majors, support student success through active engagement, and participate fully as a member of the University community.
This faculty member will report to the Chair of the Department of Natural and Behavioral Sciences and will play an integral role in advancing the University’s mission through high-quality instruction, academic support, and ongoing professional development. Qualifications
Candidates must possess a doctorate in chemistry or biochemistry with documented proof of expertise. Course development and curriculum design experience as well as evidence of a commitment to working with under-prepared students are also desirable. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to teach with technology. Effective collaboration and interpersonal skills are also desirable.
