Job Summary

The Department of Computer Science at the University of Kentucky invites applications for a tenure-eligible, 9-month appointment (Regular Title Series) assistant professor position to begin August 2026. We seek excellent candidates in all areas, with specific needs in High Performance Computing, AI/machine learning, computer systems and security. A demonstrated ability to collaborate in teams to address grand societal challenges is highly desirable. Successful candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education and be qualified to teach a broad range of courses in Computer Science. All regular title series faculty are expected to have a mix of research, teaching, and service to be negotiated annually with the chair of the department. Tenure-eligible faculty are expected to build a strong research program in their chosen area and to be dedicated teachers, contributing to our instructional offerings at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Significant investment in both research and instruction will be expected in the initial year of the appointment, with time allocation in future years to be adjusted as appropriate.

The Department, housed within the College of Engineering, has 25 faculty members. We aim to be a welcoming community of researchers and educators pursuing pioneering research in computer science as well as interdisciplinary research collaborations at the university and beyond; offering all students the highest quality instructional programs including Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD degrees in Computer Science, Master’s degree in Data Science, and Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD degrees in Computer Engineering; expanding our reach to students from all backgrounds, and serving the professional, local, state and global communities. The degree programs in Computer Engineering are offered in collaboration with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Department; the undergraduate programs in Computer Science and in Computer Engineering are ABET-accredited.
