Title: Assistant Professor, Communication, Art, & Design
Unit: Full-Time MCCC Day Faculty

General Summary: The Communication, Art, & Design Department seeks a dynamic and interdisciplinary faculty member who can teach across studio arts, graphic design, and communication-related courses. The successful candidate will demonstrate broad expertise in creative practice and visual communication and will be able to support students pursuing careers or transfer pathways in art, design, media, and communication fields.
This faculty member will contribute to a collaborative department that integrates studio practice, digital media, design thinking, and communication strategies. The position involves teaching foundational and advanced courses, mentoring students, participating in curriculum development, and supporting interdisciplinary initiatives that connect creative practice with industry and community engagement.
Duties And Responsibilities

Please note, the faculty rank of Assistant Professor may be subject to change in accordance with Article XVII of the MCCC Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Salary Range: $60,483 is the starting salary for Column B under the MCCC Salary Grids for an Assistant Professor with a Master's Degree; actual salary commensurate with academic background and experience.

Duties And Responsibilities
Teaching and Curriculum:
- Teach a range of undergraduate courses in areas such as:
- Studio art (drawing, design fundamentals, visual studies, or related areas)
- Graphic design and digital media
- Communication, media, or visual storytelling
- Teach both introductory and advanced courses depending on departmental needs.
- Integrate traditional and emerging technologies relevant to art, design, and communication.
- Support an interdisciplinary curriculum that connects visual art, design, media, and communication practices.
- Contribute to program development, including certificates, micro-credentials, and workforce pathways.
- Mentor and advise students pursuing transfer pathways or careers in art, design, and communication.
- Support student portfolio development and professional readiness.
- Engage students through inclusive, student-centered pedagogical practices.
- Participate in departmental planning, curriculum development, and assessment.
- Contribute to initiatives that strengthen enrollment, retention, and student success.
- Engage with industry partners, community organizations, and transfer institutions.
- Participate in college governance and committee work.
- Maintain an active creative or scholarly practice in art, design, media, or communication.
- Stay current with emerging technologies, design trends, and creative practices.
- Master's degree in Studio Art, Graphic Design, Media Arts, Visual Arts, Film/Media, Communication, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated ability to teach across multiple areas such as studio art, design, and/or communication.
- College-level teaching experience or demonstrated potential for effective teaching.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating creative or professional work in art, design, media, or related areas.
- Commitment to inclusive teaching practices and student success.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate collegially across disciplines.
- Commitment to continuous professional improvement.
- Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Studio Art, Graphic Design, Media Arts, Film/Communication, or a closely related field.
- Experience teaching at a community college or institution serving diverse student populations.
- Experience with digital media tools and emerging creative technologies.
- Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration and community engagement.
- Familiarity with online and hybrid course development and delivery (Blackboard LMS proficiency a plus).
- Student advising experience, particularly in supporting diverse populations.
- Bilingual abilities are a plus.
