Job Summary
The Assistant Professor and OTA Program Academic Fieldwork Coordinator (AFWC) is a full time 10-month position. This position is responsible for providing high-quality instruction within the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program while coordinating all aspects of the fieldwork education component. Responsibilities include classroom and laboratory teaching, student advising, curriculum development, and assessment of student learning outcomes. The Academic Fieldwork Coordinator develops and maintains community clinical partnerships, secures and monitors fieldwork placements, ensures compliance with accreditation standards, and supports students and clinical educators throughout the fieldwork experience. The position also includes service to the department, institution, and profession, along with ongoing professional development and scholarly engagement.
Responsibilities
Administration (55%) -
Develop and ensure full execution of fieldwork affiliation agreements in a wide variety of settings in compliance with ACOTE standards.
Facilitate partnerships between program faculty and fieldwork educators.
Support communication, collaboration, and connections between students and fieldwork educators to support the selection, matching, and scheduling of appropriate fieldwork experiences.
Design culturally sensitive fieldwork programs and fieldwork objectives in alignment with ACOTE standards.
Advocate for interdisciplinary fieldwork learning opportunities.
Collaborate with Program Director, other faculty, and fieldwork educators to facilitate congruence of curriculum design and best practice.
Develop a working relationship between the institution and fieldwork sites to facilitate ongoing collaborative partnerships to support education and practice.
Assist and monitor students in the development of their successful transition from the academic to the fieldwork portion of the educational program.
Complete fieldwork site visits during Level II fieldwork or as needed and keep record of site visits.
Maintain fieldwork site information databases for program and student use in conjunction with OTA Program administrative assistant.
Develop and revise fieldwork learning objectives in conjunction with the OTA Program Director and in compliance with current ACOTE standards.
Develop and revise student progression timeline for Level II fieldwork, communicate progression expectations to fieldwork educators, and document the progression timeline used by each fieldwork site.
Ensure fieldwork educators understand the use of learning objectives during fieldwork and document the student learning objectives used by each site.
Develop and implement a system for ensuring fieldwork educators are skilled in student supervision and prepared to assist the student in progressing through fieldwork learning objectives in preparation for entry level practice.
In conjunction with the Program Director, evaluate the ongoing effectiveness of the fieldwork program, including student performance and fieldwork site integration of academic curricular design.
Develop or explore innovative strategies of supervision for students in emerging practice areas.
Proposes strategies to support client centered, meaningful, occupation-based, and evidence-based outcomes of the occupational therapy process during fieldwork experiences.
Develop systems to manage data for record keeping, fieldwork contract agreements, confidential student health records, etc. to ensure compliance with ACOTE standards and legal requirements of local, state, and federal jurisdictions.
Assists the program director with the evaluation and revision of program components related to Level I and Level II fieldwork, including long-range goals, plans, budget, and procedures.
Assists the program director in preparing for program/institutional evaluations and accreditation functions, as applicable.
Participate in planning and conducting program advisory board meetings and activities.
Assist with program correspondence, surveys, and forms.
Assist with analysis of feedback from graduate surveys, employer surveys, focus groups, advisory board meetings, etc.
Assist with ensuring that instructional equipment is maintained in working condition and maintenance of physical inventory.
Follow safety procedures as stated in university/program safety manuals and within industry standards.
Recommend procurement of program/course supplies, contractual services, and equipment as appropriate.
Teaching (40%) -
Maintain teaching workload at two thirds (2/3) of the university's expected range of 15-22 contact hours. The additional one third (1/3) is identified as release time for the administrative responsibilities of the academic fieldwork coordinator in compliance with ACOTE Standard A.2.4.
Use a variety of methods to deliver assigned courses, utilizing best practices in adult education.
Use a variety of teaching methods to meet course goals and objectives.
Provide varied learning opportunities through the use of available instructional materials, media, supplies, and available community resources.
Integrate student assessment into student learning activities and curriculum.
Evaluate students on a regular basis and keep them informed of their progress.
Participate in the process of assessing student learning and analyzing the data/findings.

Advise assigned OT A students.
Participate in the registration process for OT A students and potential students as needed.
Refer students to professional counseling staff when appropriate.
Provide posted/scheduled office hours to assist and advise students outside of class/lab time.
Assist other faculty with the function of the program's student organization or serves as faculty advisor for the program's student organization, as applicable.
Other Duties: Professional Development and Scholarship -
Maintain appropriate state licensure and national (NBCOT) certification.
Participate in continuing education activities to improve teaching skills and to remain current in areas of expertise.
Maintain knowledge of current trends and issues impacting the occupational therapy profession.
Develop and revise curriculum vitae and faculty development plan annually.
Serve as mentor for fieldwork educators.
Effectively critique and utilize research literature and educational materials that will promote critical thinking, evidence-based practice, and lifelong learning in preparing future practitioners.
Facilitate fieldwork educators' ability to effectively critique and use new research literature and educational materials that will promote critical thinking, evidence-based practice, and lifelong learning in preparing future practitioners.
Facilitate best practices in using scholarship of teaching and learning with fieldwork educators in practice settings.

Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Hold a minimum of a baccalaureate degree awarded by an institution that is accredited by a USDE recognized institutional accrediting agency (degree is not limited to occupational therapy).
Other Required Qualifications
This individual must be an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant who is licensed by the state of Georgia and holds current NBCOT certification.
Required Experience
The academic fieldwork coordinator must have at least 2 years of clinical practice experience as an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant
Documented expertise in area of teaching responsibility is also required.
