Position Summary:

The Assistant Director of Development serves as a frontline fundraiser for the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences and is responsible for raising financial support for college-wide priorities as well as priorities across departments and programs within the College. Through frequent travel and in-person meetings, the Assistant Director of Development will qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual prospects and donors in support of Franklin College, with a focus on securing gifts in the $1,500–$50,000 range.

The Assistant Director of Development will also assist with the identification and referral of new major gift prospects capable of making gifts of $50,000 or more, working in collaboration with Franklin development leadership. When appropriate, participation in major gift solicitations will be encouraged as part of broader fundraising strategies.

This position will help plan and execute philanthropic strategy for the Division of Biological Sciences, the Division of Physical & Mathematical Sciences, and other areas or geographic territories as assigned. The Assistant Director of Development will work closely with faculty, staff, and development colleagues to align donor interests with departmental priorities and philanthropic opportunities.

The position reports to a Director of Development for Franklin College and collaborates with Franklin College development staff, the Division of Development and Alumni Relations, academic leaders, faculty, and other University partners on prospect strategy and special initiatives.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Conduct scheduled face-to-face meetings with prospective donors, alumni, and friends of Franklin College. The purpose of the meetings is to qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward prospects and donors in support of Franklin College priorities. Goals are established and agreed upon annually by the Director of Development – Strategic Initiatives and the Development Officer.

Responsible for achieving all annual fundraising and performance goals and for allocating and prioritizing time and resources to achieve the greatest return on investment.

Complete managerial processes critical to travel, scheduled meetings, and fundraising performance.

  • Record all meetings, interactions, and plans in the giving and alumni database (GAIL) in a thorough and timely manner.
  • Regularly complete reports and submit required information needed to track fundraising performance.
  • Complete necessary preparation and follow up from each visit.

Create collaborative partnerships with development colleagues and academic partners across Franklin College to build effective fundraising strategies and maximize donor potential.

  • When appropriate, partner with Franklin College departments, institutes, and University colleagues to secure gifts benefiting their respective areas.
  • Attend division and development staff meetings and scheduled individual strategy meetings.
