Kenyon College is conducting a search for a qualified candidate to fill the position of Assistant Director of Community Partnerships. The Assistant Director will support the Director in their efforts to promote and support experiential learning opportunities at Kenyon College, including community engaged learning (CEL), community-based research, community internships, volunteer opportunities and connections and collaborations between Kenyon College and Knox County. They will work closely with the Director to develop and implement the Office's strategic initiatives. The Assistant Director will work closely with the Director and other staff to create, nurture, and manage relationships with the Career Development Office, community partners, students, staff, and faculty. This is a highly collaborative work environment, requiring excellent communication skills. This is a full-time, exempt position and reports to the Director.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and support the capacity of faculty to implement experiential learning through community-engaged learning, scholarship and research.
  • Seek out through interactions with key community partners opportunities that seem well suited to enrich the Kenyon curriculum, as well as co-curricular engagement.
  • Develop relationships with local organizations for experiential learning, including identifying potential partners, recruiting partnering agencies, and developing protocols for partnership.
  • Develop and support the capacity of community organizations to incorporate community-engaged learning, volunteering, and research into their work.
  • Create and facilitate faculty development workshops, seminars and learning communities for community-engaged learning.
  • Intentional maintenance of community partnerships.
  • Act as a liaison between the College and local, state and national organizations to facilitate experiential learning programing, both curricular and co-curricular.
  • Present the work of the OCP at conferences and professional development gatherings that enhance our knowledge about community-engaged learning, research, theory, and best practices.
  • Coordinate with Director of Institutional Research to develop assessment instruments for community-engaged learning activities.
  • Train and collaborate with the CEL Faculty Fellow(s) to encourage faculty development and support.
  • Produce a monthly email, quarterly newsletter and work with other offices and staff to develop, update and improve content for the website.
  • Share responsibility for planning, organizing and implementing events and programs both in the community, at the College, and in the Wright Center. Along with others in the Office, they will act as a representative of Kenyon College through participation in community events, meetings, and service on selected community committees and boards.
  • Coordinate local community-based professional opportunities with the Career Development Office, including, but not limited to, research, internship, and job shadowing experiences.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • The Assistant Director is responsible for supervising student workers. This includes participating in hiring student workers, helping to coordinate their schedules, approving time cards, and assisting with on-going activities and projects for the students

Working Conditions:

  • The Assistant Director will work in an open office environment. The job requires some travel to and from Kenyon College in Gambier, the Wright Center in Mt. Vernon, and other community meetings and events. Periodically, the job involves lifting and moving up to 25 pounds (tables, chairs, boxes, etc.).
  • It is expected that the Assistant Director will attend some evening and weekend functions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Familiarity with small towns and rural communities.
  • Experience volunteering or working with community organizations or evidence of participation in community-based activities.
  • Computer literacy with knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, InDesign, Adobe programs, G Suite, and ACCESS.
  • Experience with website management.
  • Experience with databases and mailing lists.
  • Exceptional writing skills are required.
  • Strong logistical management, organizational and detail skills.
  • Ability to handle and balance a wide variety of tasks; communicate and deal effectively with people; take initiative and work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work collaboratively on a small team.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in higher education, non-profit or public relations work. Knowledge of Knox County and/or Kenyon College is a strong asset.
