What are the responsibilities and job description for the Adjunct - Simulation Nursing Instructor position at Inside Higher Ed?
Our Nursing program is seeking adjunct instructors to provide high quality Nursing simulation instruction.
As an Adjunct Instructor, you are committed to fostering a respectful and welcoming learning environment for all students. Instructors plan and guide the learning processes for students toward the achievement of curricular goals and objectives as identified and documented in course outline materials. Additional responsibilities include employing instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting course and student objectives; assessing the accomplishments of students on a regular basis according to department policies and procedures, and providing progress reports (evaluations and grades) as required.
Training will be provided for our Simulation Nursing Adjunct Instructors. Hawkeye’s simulation lab allows for hands-on, interactive learning, so if you are in the Nursing field and want to help train those desiring to become nurses, now is the time!

Essential Job Functions
Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Instruction will be face-to-face with anticipated hours being one (1) to three (3) days per week and may include day or evening teaching assignments.
Work is performed in the HCC Clinical Simulation Center setting and may include using technology. Requires good hand-eye coordination including visual acuity to use a keyboard and read technical information; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp. Sit, stand, bend, lift and move frequently during working hours. During course of day, interact with students, faculty and staff in person, by telephone and computers.

- Principle responsibilities include implementing, and evaluating simulation-based activities and scenarios conducted in the Simulation Center.
- Prepares daily instructional plans and materials.
- Employs various instructional modalities, methods and materials that are appropriate for meeting stated objectives, assessing accomplishments of students on a regular basis, and providing progress reports as requested and required.
- Monitors, evaluates, and documents student attendance, progress and competency attainment.
- Maintains positive relationships with faculty, students, all divisions of the college as well as the program’s Advisory Committee, prospective employers, and the community.
- Offers a safe and supportive learning environment while encouraging learning and problem solving.
- Committed to promoting diversity and inclusion
- Participates in campus committees as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Unless otherwise approved, regular on campus and/or onsite attendance is considered an essential function of the position.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
- Minimum of three-years (3) of recent practical work experience in nursing
- Registered Nurse with a current, unencumbered license in Iowa or Iowa eligible
- Familiar with nursing simulation.
- Demonstrated ability to use motivational skills and engage students in the learning process from all backgrounds and educational experiences.
- Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new and current technical skills and ideas.
- Demonstrated strong organizational skills.
- Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills to positively interact with students, faculty, and staff.
- Demonstrated ability and motivation to work with a wide array of faculty, staff, students, and the general public in a professional and personable manner.
- Healthcare simulation-based teaching experience.
- Prior experience as preceptor, clinical instructor or nursing faculty member.
- Current CPR, First Aid, ACLS, PALS, and Mandatory Reporter certifications.
- Community college experience.

Employment Status
- Adjunct clinical lab positions are part time with wages expected to be $44 per hour.
