Primary Purpose Of Organizational Unit
The Department of Biostatistics (BIOS) is internationally recognized as a leader in Biostatistics research and training. It is one of eight departments in the Gillings School of Global Public Health whose mission is to improve public health, promote individual well-being and eliminate health inequities across North Carolina and around the world. This mission is accomplished through an outstanding program of collaborative teaching, research and service. The Department of Biostatistics is one of the largest, most complex departments at UNC, receiving over $45 million in research funding in FY24. Currently BIOS includes approximately 288 students (84 undergraduate, 204 graduate), approximately 100 permanent staff members, and 40 faculty members (30 with primary appointments in BIOS), as well as an additional 20 adjunct faculty members. The Department of Biostatistics is housed in two different locations: administrative and faculty offices, including a suite of offices for graduate students, in McGavran-Greenberg Hall and the Collaborative Studies Coordinating Center at Carolina Square.

Position Summary
Primary responsibilities of this position include (but may not be limited to):
- Technical accounting work including responsibility for maintaining accounting records in conjunction with the Director of Finance (Director) and accounting staff. This position’s responsibility is to analyze data for accuracy, reconcile charges with the appropriate back-up documentation, and to identify and correct any errors. Accountable for accuracy of entries and reconciliation of data and information.
- Processing and reconciliation of Concur and Web Travel requests and reports from faculty, staff, and students.
- Processing of other general financial activities, including (but not limited to) vendor requests, independent contractor requests, check requests, and purchase requisitions.
- Prepares ePARs and PAATs for faculty and staff.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Management Preferences
- Experience with ePARs and PAATs.
- Demonstrated ability to write precisely and clearly.
- Proven analytical and reasoning abilities,
- Knowledge of evaluating financial records and bookkeeping.
- Thorough knowledge of and skill in applying generally accepted accounting principles.
