Located in North Carolina’s third largest city, UNC Greensboro is among the most diverse, learner-centered public research universities in the state, with 18,000 students in eight colleges and schools pursuing more than 150 areas of undergraduate and over 200 areas of graduate study. UNCG continues to be recognized nationally for academic excellence, access, and affordability. UNCG is ranked No. 1 most affordable institution in North Carolina for net cost by the N.Y. Times and No. 1 in North Carolina for social mobility by The Wall Street Journal — helping first-generation and lower-income students find paths to prosperity. Designated an Innovation and Economic Prosperity University by the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities, UNCG is a community-engaged research institution with a portfolio of more than $67M in research and creative activity. The University’s 2,600 staff help create an annual economic impact for the Piedmont Triad region in excess of $1B.

Primary Purpose Of The Organizational Unit

The School of HHS aims to inspire and equip students, faculty, and staff to transform institutions to work in ways that make the world healthier and safer. We believe in social justice, equity, and a people-centered approach to community. Our school includes a rich and unique array of nationally ranked programs including Human Health Sciences, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Community and Therapeutic Recreation, Genetic Counseling, Gerontology, Human Development and Family Studies, Kinesiology, Nutrition, Peace and Conflict Studies, Public Health Education, and Social Work. We celebrate our dynamic intellectual community by embracing interdisciplinary collaboration, the creativity of thought, and innovation of practice.

The Gerontology Program, proudly housed in the Department of Social Work, consists of an Undergraduate Minor in Gerontology, a Master of Science in Gerontology, and a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Gerontology. The accredited MS in Gerontology is the only, fully online program in Gerontology in North Carolina. Students are provided with a broad and integrated perspective on aging through collaborative relationships with academic disciplines, community organizations, and businesses, so students can approach issues of aging from a well-informed perspective. The programs in Gerontology prepare students for careers in agencies and programs serving older adults and their families. Programs are flexible and practitioner-oriented with a focus on authentic learning and developing practical knowledge and skills. We are looking for candidates who will be passionate about working with students to prepare tomorrow’s aging services providers with an exemplary education. The new faculty member will be responsible for teaching courses primarily at the undergraduate level, both online and in-person.
