What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Registered Nurse Outpatient position at Inova Health System?
We are looking for dedicated and experienced Lead Outpatient Registered Nurses in the Fairfax and Ashburn area to work in children's specialties including Inova Children's Hematology/Oncology, Inova Children's Pulmonology, Inova Children's Gastroenterology, Inova Children's Neurology and Inova Children's Orthopedics & Sports Medicine These roles will be full-time, day shift with varying hours from 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Monday - Friday.

The Lead Outpatient Registered Nurse assists management in the development and implementation of strategic policies and procedures. Serves as a clinical expert and a team lead for all clinical staff in the outpatient environment while communicating effectively and working cooperatively with others. Achieves desired patient outcomes using integrated approach. Ensures improvements in practice settings by assuming responsibility for self-development in lifelong learning and providing direction and guidance to others regarding practice. Serves as a resource, preceptor and mentor to the outpatient team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides oversight of daily clinical operations, workflow, productivity and training to Outpatient clinical team members and updates management regarding any issues in the outpatient setting
Collaborates with healthcare team members, patients and families to maximize patient outcomes and to ensure patients are processed proficiently and expediently
Serves as resource to team members and to provide training to improve team member competency and enhance level of service
Delegates patient care activities appropriately to other healthcare team members and participates in making and revising staff assignments
Advocates actively for patients' rights and identifies potential conflicts
Evaluates patient outcomes and makes revisions in plans of care. Documents all patient care activities according to documentation standards
Minimum Requirements:
- Experience: 3 years of registered nurse clinical experience
- Education: BSN from an accredited school of nursing.
- Licensure: RN licensed, or eligible to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse
- Certification upon start: Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous Pediatric Specialists of Virginia (PSV) work experience
