FULL JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: Senior Staff Accountant
Reports to: VP / Accounting & Finance or Controller
Status: Full-Time
Location: Clearwater, FL (In-Office)
Position Summary
The Senior Staff Accountant applies principles of GAAP accounting to prepare financial reports and to analyze financial information.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Compile and analyze financial information to prepare entries to accounts (e.g., general ledger), documenting business transactions.
- Lead the month-end close process for multiple business units, ensuring all journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and analyses are completed accurately.
- Cash Management: Perform detailed reconciliation for cash accounts and intercompany loan accounts; ensure both sides balance in the accounting system. Determine cash needs for SBUs. Complete bank reconciliations and set up ACH expenditures.
- Perform statistical analyses to determine trends, estimates, and significant changes; write narrative reports explaining findings.
- Conduct variance and ratio analyses and present results to upper management.
- Analyze financial information to prepare balance sheets, P&Ls, and additional reports for management review.
- Audit contracts, orders, and vouchers; prepare reports to substantiate transactions prior to settlement.
- Determine proper handling of financial transactions and approve transactions within designated limits.
- Monitor compliance with GAAP, Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP), and internal company procedures.
- Review, investigate, and correct errors and inconsistencies in financial entries and reports.
- Install or modify accounting systems and internal controls; document and coordinate implementation.
- Devise and implement systems for general accounting; continuously seek process improvements and automation opportunities.
- Design and maintain pro formas for current and proposed contracts to determine pricing and profitability.
- Make recommendations regarding reserves, assets, and expenditures.
- Conduct studies and offer recommendations to improve accounting operations.
- Collect data and prepare federal, state, and local reports and tax returns.

Qualifications
- Minimum 4 years of accounting experience
- Minimum 4 years of GAAP accounting
- Supervisory/management experience a plus
- Insurance industry experience a plus
- Statutory accounting experience a plus
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
- CPA preferred
Computer Skills
- Advanced Excel required
- QuickBooks experience preferred
Environmental / Physical Demands
- Office environment
- Regular computer use, data entry, and communication
- Occasional bending, reaching, kneeling, stooping, and lifting up to 30 lbs

Salary : $120,000 - $130,000
