  • Document findings accurately and assist with the review and reporting of results
  • Follow established SOPs, quality-control procedures, and laboratory safety requirements
  • Maintain microscopes and other laboratory equipment
  • Assist with specimen accessioning, sample preparation, inventory, and laboratory recordkeeping
  • Support the development and refinement of parasitology procedures and quality standards

Additional responsibilities for full-time candidates:

  • Perform ELISA-based testing on canine and feline stool samples
  • Prepare reagents, controls, standards, and specimens for analytical testing
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment
  • Review quality-control results and help investigate testing discrepancies
  • Assist with other pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical laboratory activities as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in microbiology, biology, parasitology, veterinary technology, medical laboratory science, or a related field
  • Hands-on experience performing parasite identification using microscopy
  • Familiarity with ova and parasite testing methods
  • Ability to accurately recognize common canine and feline intestinal parasites
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate, consistent laboratory work
  • Ability to follow written procedures and maintain complete documentation
  • Comfortable handling and processing stool specimens
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a growing laboratory team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a veterinary, clinical, reference, diagnostic, research, or public-health laboratory
  • Experience with canine or feline parasitology
  • Experience performing ELISA or other immunoassay-based testing
  • Familiarity with laboratory quality systems, quality control, and SOP development
  • ASCP certification or veterinary laboratory experience is a plus but not required

Schedule

Part-time candidates should generally be available for approximately 10–20 hours per week. Scheduling is flexible, and evening or weekend work may be possible. Full-time candidates will assume broader responsibilities across parasitology, ELISA testing, and daily laboratory operations.
