What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cost Accountant position at Innospec Inc.?
This Cost Accountant will be onsite based out of Englewood, CO and this position maintains and analyzes product cost data in SAP, including cost rollups and standard-to-actual variance reporting. The role supports cross-functional teams with timely costing and freight inputs, and ensures SOX-compliant inventory reconciliations, counts, and audit/month-end close support.
Essential Functions
- Maintain cost accounting data in SAP including ad hoc and quarterly cost roll-up procedures.
- Support the Sales, Customer Care, and Supply Chain teams with product cost information in a timely and professional manner.
- Analyze actual manufacturing costs and prepare periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs.
- Review third party manufacturing, terminal, and warehousing contracts to ensure accurate storage costs are reflected in the standards.
- Obtain information from the Logistics team to ensure reasonable and accurate in-bound freight costs are reflected in the standards.
- Assist Supply Chain with adding Item Coverage for movements and packaging at new sites, as well as adding service fees to BOM’s and updating costs.
- Make estimates of new and proposed product costs based on information provided by the technical team.
- End production orders once variances have been analysed and/or fixed to ensure inventory readiness for sales availability, count accuracy, and invoicing readiness.
- Obtain monthly counts from third party terminals and warehouses and reconcile to the data in AX in accordance with SOX controls.
- Coordinate periodic cycle counts and annual physical inventories with Supply Chain, external audit team, and third party warehouses in accordance with SOX controls.
- Partner with Supply Chain to improve the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of the data provided by the third parties.
- Prepare audit schedules and provide audit support to assist in our annual internal audit, and interim and year-end external audits.
- Support a complete and accurate month-end close process within established deadlines of the company - (inventory reconciliations, timetable improvements, etc...).
- Assist in other capacities, as required.
Role Requirements
- Experience with SAP is preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Good understanding of the P&L and Balance Sheet
- Strong analytical and data modeling skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
