What you will have an opportunity to do:

JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: Floral Designer & Horticulture Assistant

DIVISION: Maintenance & Grounds DEPARTMENT: Grounds

REPORTS TO: Horticulturist CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY

The Floral Designer & Horticulture Assistant is responsible for designing, creating, and maintaining high-impact floral displays and large-scale plant installations throughout the hotel and property. This role works closely with the Horticulturist to ensure all designs align with the property’s aesthetic standards while supporting the development of a comprehensive cut flower program.

In addition to floral design, this position assists with landscape installation, garden maintenance, and seasonal décor to enhance the overall guest experience.

Essential Job Functions:

• Assist in the design and creation of floral displays throughout the hotel using both fresh and artificial materials
• Properly process, store, and care for fresh flowers to ensure quality and longevity
• Maintain and refresh floral arrangements, including watering and upkeep
• Support flower selection and procurement of floral materials and supplies
• Maintain inventory of floral tools and materials, including wires, foam, ribbons, and decorative elements
• Assist in the design, planting, and upkeep of large containers using annuals, perennials, and ornamental shrubs
• Support maintenance of cut flower gardens, greenhouse, and vegetable gardens, including planting, weeding, watering, pruning, mulching, and fertilizing
• Assist with seasonal and holiday décor installations, both indoors and outdoors
• Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient operations and exceptional guest service
• Perform moderate physical tasks, including lifting and moving materials such as planters, soil, mulch, and equipment
• Assist with additional Grounds Department tasks and special projects as assigned

• Strong artistic ability with a creative eye and attention to detail
• Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of guest and hotel information
• Flexibility to work varied schedules based on business needs
• Physical capability to perform labor-intensive tasks, including lifting 50 lbs or more and operating landscape equipment
• Ability to work in outdoor environments and perform physically active duties

Qualifications:

• High school diploma preferred
• Passion for floral design, horticulture, and outdoor environments
• Previous experience in floral design, horticulture, landscaping, or a related field preferred
• Minimum age of 18 years
• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
• General knowledge of hotel operations and guest service standards preferred

Physical & Mental Requirements

Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
• Must be able to resolve problems, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure.

Work Environment

• Daily exposure to direct sunlight, high humidity, extremes of heat and cold, noise, paint, and other exposures associated with the hotel environment.
• The work environment may involve varying conditions and circumstances with guests, staff, visitors, government agencies, etc.
