We are currently seeking a strategic and detailed individual to join our Quality team. This role will be responsible for monitoring Quality Inspection team members, analyzing department metrics, and reporting on the daily inspection activities on incoming parts and products in a manufacturing facility. A Quality Engineer and Supervisor works with a team to ensure that all incoming team members have defined duties and proper training in order to complete assigned tasks while adhering to safety and quality standards. Responsibilities
Quality Engineer:
- Ensure all inspectors are completing the inspection documentation daily
- Supervise quality lab personnel ensuring accuracy of data recorded while supporting the quality system and ISO requirements
- Assist the Quality Lab Technicians in sustaining the calibration system and ordering and controlling new measurement instruments as required
- Empower, coach, and mentor team members
- Monitor and prioritize work assignments and workloads of team members
- Convey priorities through organization and team delegation
- Monitor employee performance: make recommendations to enhance improvement, assign projects to further elevate talent and skill level, and conduct annual performance reviews
- Conduct one-on-one meetings
- Manage employee time off requests to ensure departmental commitments are met
- Improve departmental results by establishing contingency plans and promoting team collaboration
- Improve the effectiveness of the communication and problem resolution process, i.e., response time, time-to-containment, time-to-resolution, and efficient NCM / MRB meetings are attended as required
- Organize and hold meetings to improve team efficiency
- Stay updated on findings and recommendations
- Ensure the prioritizing of inspections, along with the proper use of precision measuring instruments such as the Keyence, comparator and CMM machines used by inspection personnel
- Understanding of the PPAP (production part approval process) process to ensure first article inspections are conducted and communicated in a timely and accurate fashion, as wells as First Article Inspections (FAI) and in-process inspections completed in timely fashion
- Ensure inspection team members are adhering to proper inspection protocols as required
- Ensure NCM’s are completed properly in the JDE system
- Implement problem solving processes including response time, time-to-containment and time-to-resolution
- Complete and update quality assurance reports and other required paperwork accurately
- Develop and utilize reports as appropriate to monitor supplier incoming quality and performance while ensuring appropriate corrective and preventative actions are taken as assigned by the Quality Manager
- Document any issues, defects, or deviations from standard procedures
- Stay up-to-date on the features and benefits of quality products and parts
- Collaborate with colleagues to expand product knowledge
- Participate in training programs to improve quality skills and product knowledge
- Ensure team members attend monthly EHS and Quality trainings
- Ensure all policies and procedures (i.e. report on time and ready to work - Start/Lunch/Breaks)
- Perform incoming inspection and ensure accuracy of purchased parts
- Ensure process quality checks are followed per quality procedures and ISO requirements
- Follow all safety guidelines, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Report any safety hazards or incidents to supervisors promptly
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Follow 5S principles (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain)
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering, preferred
- 3 years’ experience in Quality, and Manufacturing experience with 2 years of supervisory experience
- Understanding of effective quality systems and methodologies and their impact on both the internal and external business environments
- Self-starter, work with minimal supervision and exemplify strong leadership and communication skills
- Knowledge and experience in reading blueprints
- Ability in using various metrology measurement devices (handheld gages, such as micrometers and calipers, optical comparators, and Keyence coordinate measurement machines)
- Demonstrated time management skills, strategic thinking, and adaptability
- Proficient computer knowledge (i.e. log on credentials (SSO), JD Edwards and Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel)
- ASQ Certified Quality Engineer/Manager certification
- Gage R&R experience
- Knowledge of Ductile iron castings, precision machining, sheet metal, and finishing
- Have a strong understanding of the financial impact of CoPQ (cost of poor quality) in total cost terms
- Use of a CMM (Coordinate Measuring machines)
