The Role
The Skillbridge intern will train as a Environmental Hazmat Technician within Ingalls Shipbuilding, reporting to a designated HII Supervisor, with the goal of learning Environmental Hazmat Technician basics and principles. The intern will be assigned special projects as needed.
Desired End State (3-4 month target)
Phase 1 - Basics
Must be a transitioning active-duty military personnel with their final 12 months of active-duty service.

The Role
The Skillbridge intern will train as a Environmental Hazmat Technician within Ingalls Shipbuilding, reporting to a designated HII Supervisor, with the goal of learning Environmental Hazmat Technician basics and principles. The intern will be assigned special projects as needed.
Desired End State (3-4 month target)
- At the end of four months, the intern will be able to use predetermined methods, operations, setups and prescribed specifications to support the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) department by conducting inspections and ensuring regulatory compliance in an industrial setting.
- The intern will develop a good understanding of the inspection and regulatory process. This includes:
- Monitoring satellite accumulation areas, hazardous waste tanks, paint shop drums, air emission sources, and chemical handling practices
- Ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local regulations such as EPA, RCRA, CAA, CWA, DOT, and OSHA, while maintaining accurate documentation and supporting internal audits
- Spill response, waste manifest tracking, and collaboration with other departments to resolve nonconformances
- Strong attention to detail, knowledge of environmental regulations, and the ability to work in industrial environments with appropriate PPE
- Hazardous materials handling
- Ingalls Shipbuilding will benefit from the military background of the Skillbridge intern and considers the Skillbridge internship an overall positive experience.
- If candidate is selected and approved, Skillbridge Intern can travel in conjunction with this internship; HII Ingalls will fund all travel costs.
- Skillbridge Intern will possess at minimum an Active confidential Security Clearance.
- Skillbridge Intern will be available during core hours for critical meetings and training.
