About The Role
Infrastructure Engineering Inc. (I E I) is looking for a Senior Civil Project Manager to join our Indianapolis, IN Team! The Sr Civil Project Manager is responsible for leading the management of multiple civil engineering projects, cultivating client relationships, and pursuing new business opportunities throughout the State of Indiana. As an IEI leader, you will engage clients in meaningful business discussions to identify opportunities for growth, diversify our portfolio, and strengthen IEI’s reputation for technical excellence. Essential Duties/Functions and Responsibilities:
Includes, but not limited to the following:
- Oversees and provides direction to staff in insuring delivery of all project elements (plans, specs, permits and reports etc.) are technically accurate.
- Promotes and leverages technology to ensure projects are delivered efficiently.
- Engage directly with clients and provide them with guidance and support in the scope and priorities of their capital program.
- Facilitate creation of deep, personal, valuable client relationships between IEI’s personnel and client personnel (management, technical, functional, delivery) to weave a fabric of broad-based relationships between our firm and the clients.
- Ensures project delivery team secures executed contracts, Notice to Proceed and Subconsultant Agreements prior to inception of project services.
- Proven track record of coordinating teams and winning work in an area or statewide basis
- Sales knowledge on how to identify contracts well in advance, respond to RFPs/solicitations, interview, and win new work
- Strong business acumen and effective communication skills
- Capability to negotiate with and influence others
- Substantial transportation infrastructure experience
- Ensures project delivery team safeguards firm’s exposure against risks associated with scope and scope creep, fees and schedule by actively monitoring them and promptly communicating deviations to the clients.
- Ensures project delivery team regularly monitors clients’ project success goals and maintains consistent client communication to keep them abreast of these goals.
- Assists in reviewing contracts to safeguard firms exposure against risk associated with scope, fees and schedule along with contract language which may cause unreasonable and uninsurable liability to the firm.
- Approves scope, fees and schedule developed by Project Managers during contract negotiations.
- Works closely with Operations Manager and VP in assigning and securing required technical and other tangible resources for project delivery.
- Prepares Group’s staffing, resources, backlog and revenue projections to anticipate and plan appropriate actions to ensure resources are in alignment with the needs.
- Regularly coordinates with the Operations Manager regarding the technical and financial performance of the Group.
- Ensures IEI policies and procedures are adhered and works closely with Office Manager and HR in hiring, firing, rewarding, recognizing and disciplining staff.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field from an accredited four‐year college or university or approved equivalent. Typically possesses 8-10 years of experience including Project Management/Client Relations/Business Development responsibilities.
- Substantial business development experience in the engineering and/or professional services and consulting industry, including proven client development skills
- Advanced understanding of risk management policies and procedures of the A/E industry.
- Must experience in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams); as well as familiar with a CRM system or related platforms (Deltek, Paycor, VantagePoint, etc); and a comfort level in CAD software strongly desired (i.e. AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil 3D, etc)
- Active Registered Professional Engineer required. Additional registrations and accreditations (i.e. LEED AP, Certified Floodplain Manager, PTOE etc.) are desired. Other licensure or registration (must require Continuing Education to remain active) may be considered in lieu Professional Engineer or Structural Engineer licensure
- Ensures project delivery team prepares IEI’s Project Management Plan (PMP) at start of project and follows and updates them for duration of the project.
- Ensures projects receive a Minimum Formal Evaluation or Feedback of “Satisfactory” or Equivalent from Clients. Actively deploys practices and procedure to earn “Above Average” evaluation.
- Ensures project delivery team complies with IEI’s QA/QC and/or client mandated QA/QC policies and procedures.
- Monitors financial profitability of the Group and takes corrective actions when profitability falls below the target. General overall profit target is 10%.
- Assists firm leadership in shaping and deploying strategies which helps sustain profitability and financial strength of the firm.
- Regularly monitors project progress and budget and ensures project delivery team completes projects within the allocated budget and schedule.
- Ensures all members of project delivery team are aware of and actively monitoring budgets on recurring basis commensurate with job classification.
- Ensures all assigned members of project delivery team are complying with Invoicing protocols and schedules and working actively in pursuing collections and AR's.
- Develops and fosters relationships with key clients and agencies which results in winning work.
- Develop and deploy business development strategies which results in Group’s growth in alignment with firm’s growth strategies.
- Meets regularly with existing clients to discuss current projects, evaluate performance and identify other business opportunities.
- Oversees and contributes in preparation of technical proposals and other marketing efforts in a timely manner.
- Proactively participates in industry and community functions and activities that promote IEI's visibility and brand.
- Develop office and firm's strategic capabilities and capacity by attracting and recruiting staff.
- Works in collaboration with staff in identifying and actively promoting professional development of staff to meet personal and firms’ professional development goals.
- Possesses good verbal and written communication skills.

- Promotes and participates in team building initiatives for the Group and firm.

- IEI will provide a company vehicle for fieldwork with acceptable driver's record.
- Must be physically capable of walking and moving about on the construction sites, have good hand-eye coordination, and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.
- Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions or in-progress construction hazards: fumes, toxic chemicals, risk of electric shock, and vibration. Often works around dust, asphalt, and concrete.
- Sometimes need to put in extra hours, including weekends, to keep up with intense construction work at times and deal with unexpected situations and accidents.
- Spends some time working indoors to review blueprints and write reports.
- Usually works a standard 40-hour workweek either daytime or nighttime.
- Usually works in outside weather conditions.
