About The Role
Infrastructure Engineering Inc. (I E I) is looking for a Project Engineer – Civil to join our Los Angeles, CA Team! The Project Engineer – Civil (LA) applies advanced and diversified knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices across highway, roadway, transit, and municipal infrastructure projects. We are a leading engineering firm known for quality and responsiveness and a proven track record of success as a Prime civil engineering firm. This role supports Project Managers and Design Managers by providing technical expertise, developing engineering concepts, preparing and reviewing plans and specifications, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring that project deliverables meet quality, accuracy, and schedule expectations.
The ideal candidate will hold a PE License in California and bring prior experience working with government and public-sector clients, including LA County Public Works, LA Metro, Caltrans, and the City of Los Angeles. In this position, the Project Engineer helps cultivate and advance engineering projects from concept and planning through design, documentation, and implementation, contributing to IEI’s growing portfolio in the LA market. Strong technical competence, proactive communication, and the ability to solve complex engineering challenges are essential to success in this role.

Active registered Professional Engineer or Structural Engineer required. Additional registrations and accreditations (i.e. LEED AP, Certified Floodplain Manager, PTOE etc.) are desired. Other licenses or registrations may be considered in lieu Professional Engineer or Structural Engineer licensure.

Compensation: Salary Range: $110K - $140K

Essential Duties/Functions And Responsibilities
Includes, but not limited to the following:
- As a Project Engineer, carries out complex or novel assignments requiring developing new or improved civil engineering techniques or procedures to create new or refined equipment, materials, processes, or methods.
- Perform QA/QC of plans, calculations, specifications, and quantities developed by civil engineering and other project engineers as per IEI QA/QC plan.
- As a Project Engineer, serves as a technical specialist, staff advisor, and consultant to the civil engineering specialty for a given land/site development, public works, and/or transportation-related project or program function.
- Markets the firm’s capabilities within the civil engineering specialty to establish new clients and enhance relationships with existing clients.
- Coordinates technical and administrative activities with those of other disciplines and other departments in the company participating in a project.
- Prepares proposals for potential projects.
- Participates in selecting design teams and sub-consultants and in the negotiations of fees and subcontractors.
- Conducts constructability reviews or assists in the design/planning/review of other civil engineering projects not assigned to the incumbent.
- May supervise civil engineering and support personnel; evaluates performance; assigns and schedules work; establishes project priorities and standards; makes recommendations on hiring, firing, and promotions; provides technical support of project work.
- May assist the Department/Division Manager in preparing the department/division budget and policy implementation.
- Takes time to train and mentor colleagues on acquired skill sets to improve overall team quality and performance.
- Takes the initiative in developing and/or refining existing templates and procedures to streamline effort for the entire team.
- Handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to read, analyzes, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
- Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or styles. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
- Intermediate personal computer skills, including electronic mail, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
- Attends and participates in industry and community functions and activities that promote firm’s visibility and branding.
- Meets regularly with existing clients to discuss current projects, evaluate performance and identify other business opportunities.
- Assists in identifying areas of new work and projects with existing and new clients.
- Prepares technical writing for proposals and work pursuits.
- Develops project teams for proposals, work pursuits, and establishes pursuing team relationships.
- Prepares and attends client outreach events (i.e. pre-proposal meetings, conferences and networking events) and presentations with clients in support of project pursuit or promoting firm’s visibility and branding.
- Prepares project and technical profiles for use in brochures and other collateral materials
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering required; and PE License in the State of California or the ability to obtain licensure within six months of hire.
- At least 5 years of specialized work experience within a disciplines including Transportation, Roadway, Highway, and Government and Municipal Contracts
- Ability to comprehend and apply advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory principles.
- Strong team player in a multi-disciplinary environment who can work on and contribute to several projects simultaneously.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

- Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions or in-progress construction hazards: fumes, toxic chemicals, risk of electric shock, and vibration. Often works around dust, asphalt, and concrete.
- Sometimes need to put in extra hours, including weekends, to keep up with intense construction work at times and deal with unexpected situations and accidents.
- Spends some time working indoors to review blueprints and write reports.
- Usually works a standard 40-hour workweek either daytime or nighttime.
- Usually works in outside weather conditions.
