The role involves moderate physical activity such as walking, standing, bending, and climbing stairs or ladders. Employees may occasionally lift objects weighing up to 80 pounds. It is essential for employees to navigate construction sites skillfully and conduct thorough inspections of materials and structures.
Employees must have the ability to visually discern and differentiate details and colors of objects, and proficiency in recognizing sound, tone, and pitch. Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary. The role demands adaptability to interruptions and changes in workflow, as well as the capacity to sit for extended periods. Employees must be capable of working in varied environmental conditions, including hot, cold, and noisy settings, and be able to stand and walk during site visits. Additionally, working on construction projects may involve night work and weekend work depending on the project scope and may include working in conditions with active traffic.

The ICE offices are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Work schedules may vary according to the project schedule. Night and weekend work may be required.

Responsibilities
- Inspect and Monitor Signal Installation: Continuously oversee and inspect signal installation and miscellaneous concrete work to ensure full compliance with safety, plans, specifications, and all contract requirements.
- Provide Daily Observations: Offer daily observations of construction activities, ensuring that they adhere to project standards, and meticulously document these activities on the requisite reports/forms.
- Quantify Installed Materials: Determine and document the quantities of all materials that have been installed during the project.
- Enforce SCDOT Standards: Ensure that all materials, procedures, and safety protocols strictly adhere to the latest South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) standards.
- Material Sampling and Testing: Conduct material sampling and testing to guarantee that construction materials meet the quality requirements stipulated in the project specifications.
- Effective Communication: Maintain effective communication and interaction with colleagues and client representatives, fostering productive working relationships.
- Flexible Schedule: Be flexible and adaptable to the project's needs, which will include working night shifts to align with the contractor's schedule.
- Diplomacy in Difficult Situations: Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to use diplomacy and maintain composure in challenging and stressful situations.
- Must have math calculation skills, MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) experience.
- Strong written and communication skills required.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds sometimes on a frequent basis.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
- Fleet drivers must possess a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
- Must complete a pre-employment screening; ICE is a drug-free workplace
- HS diploma or equivalent required, technical college coursework in engineering preferred.
- The following certificates are desired: IMSA Signal Inspector or Technician, ACI Concrete, and SCDOT Concrete Level 1&2.
