Production Planner (Indirect Materials) – Contract Opportunity
Location: Rochester, NY (Onsite)
Shift: 1st Shift | 10-hour workday | Overtime available
We’re hiring a Production Planner focused on indirect materials and inventory operations to support a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role plays a key part in ensuring material availability, maintaining inventory accuracy, and coordinating closely with purchasing, suppliers, and internal teams.
What You’ll Be Doing
• Track and analyze daily material usage using Excel and internal systems
• Perform routine inventory updates and adjustments within SAP
• Create and manage purchase requisitions and support purchase order processing
• Monitor stock levels and proactively resolve shortages or low inventory situations
• Partner with suppliers and internal teams to resolve order, delivery, and material discrepancies
• Support indirect material planning, including consumables, repair items, and special orders
• Maintain accurate material data, including new item setup and updates in systems
• Investigate and resolve receiving and order issues (quantity mismatches, missing info, etc.)
• Review open orders and follow up to ensure timely fulfillment
• Contribute to inventory optimization through reorder point and usage trend analysis
• Assist with periodic audits, excess/obsolete reviews, and inventory accuracy initiatives
• Support internal users with systems/process training when needed
What We’re Looking For
• Hands-on experience working with SAP in an inventory or materials environment
• Familiarity with purchase requisitions (PR) and purchase orders (PO)
• Experience supporting warehouse inventory or material handling operations
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Outlook
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Preferred Background
• Experience in indirect materials, MRO, or non-production inventory
• Exposure to inventory control, stock reconciliation, or cycle counting
• Background in business, supply chain, or a related field is helpful (not required)
• Accounting-oriented mindset is a plus
Basic Qualifications
• High School Diploma required (Bachelor’s preferred)
• ~5 years of relevant experience in materials, inventory, or supply chain
Key Must-Haves
• Minimum 2 years of SAP experience
• Basic proficiency in Excel & Outlook
• Experience handling large inventory or warehouse materials
