Title: Network Engineer - Consultant
Location: Columbia, SC 29210
Duration: 12 Months (with possible extension)
Job Type: Hybrid (3 Days Onsite per Week, 2 Days Remote per Week)
Responsibilities
Non-Technical
• Effectively interact and communicate with peer-to-Director-level IT professionals.
• Provide feedback to the team regarding product issues, enhancements, and new features.
• Must have initiative, drive, and be a self-starter.
• Ability to ask pertinent questions of others.
• Proactively seek to identify, communicate, and implement process-related improvements.
• Effectively manage multiple tasks and activities concurrently and provide periodic status updates to key stakeholders.
• Collaborate extensively with peers and management to resolve client issues while actively contributing to a growing knowledge network that improves team effectiveness and information available to clients.
• Prioritize numerous issues of varying severity and effectively manage the resolution of all issues within accepted service levels.
• Maintain ownership of data entered into the Help Desk system and appropriately update clients and employees on issue status in a timely manner.
• Demonstrate strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and responsiveness to customer tickets.
Technical
• Troubleshoot and recommend technical solutions for customer issues related to backup configuration and recovery.
• Develop workaround solutions as appropriate.
• Perform equipment and software upgrades.
• Maintain familiarity with current computer and network products.
• Adhere to agency information security guidelines and promote information security among coworkers.
• Monitor and assess current systems and recommend hardware and software enhancements.
• Act as a technical resource for other IT analysts and business units by resolving complex computer equipment and systems problems.
• Diagnose and resolve problems related to hardware, software, or operator error.
• Escalate complex problems to other groups, the Help Desk, or vendors for resolution and oversee vendor work.
• Install, configure, test, monitor, and maintain system and application hardware, software, and peripherals for users.
• Install and configure servers in collaboration with the WAN group.
• Lead and execute small projects.
• Perform root cause analysis and resolution.
• Mentor and lead junior staff members regularly.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Required Skills
• 10 years of experience with SolarWinds network administration, including WPM, SAM, UDT, and WHD.
• 10 years of experience with Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) platforms.
• 10 years of experience with automation scripting.
• 10 years of experience with PCI, NIST, and Pub 1075 security implementations and/or audits.
• 7 years of experience in the public sector.
Preferred Skills
• Knowledge of networking protocols, including TCP/IP, HTTP, NTP, DNS, MLLP, and NDM.
• PowerShell.
• Disaster Recovery.
• Incident Handling.
• Cybersecurity and SOC skills.
Required Education
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology Systems, Computer Science, or a related field, and four years of experience in information technology systems or a related area.
Preferred Certifications
• CCNP, CCDP, MCP, MCSE, PCNSE, VMWare, or experience in information technology, security, or related areas.
