Job Title: Lead Ontologist / Knowledge Engineer

Location: Louisville, KY (Onsite/Hybrid as per client requirement)
Duration: 6 Contract Months

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Lead Ontologist / Knowledge Engineer to design, build, and govern enterprise ontologies, semantic models, and knowledge systems.

This role focuses on enabling semantic interoperability, knowledge representation, and inference-ready data models to support AI, analytics, and enterprise decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

1. Ontology & Semantic Modeling

• Design and develop:
  • Enterprise ontologies
  • Semantic and conceptual data models
• Define:
  • Taxonomies
  • Controlled vocabularies
  • Metadata frameworks

2. Knowledge Graphs & Interoperability

• Build and support:
  • Knowledge graphs
  • Semantic reasoning systems
• Enable interoperability across systems, APIs, and platforms

3. Data Architecture & Governance

• Define target data architecture for:
  • Image storage
  • Metadata management
  • Interoperability
• Establish:
  • Data standards
  • Governance frameworks
• Ensure alignment with enterprise modernization initiatives

4. Collaboration & Leadership

• Work closely with:
  • Architects
  • Data engineers
  • Product owners
  • Domain experts
• Guide teams on:
  • Ontology modeling standards
  • Best practices
  • Reusability strategies

5. Review & Validation

• Validate:
  • Semantic consistency
  • Solution design correctness
• Drive adoption of:
  • Industry standards
  • Reference ontologies

6. Documentation & Strategy

• Maintain:
  • Semantic documentation
  • Governance artifacts
• Provide architectural oversight for:
  • Scalability
  • Maintainability

Required Skills (Must Have)

• 9 years of experience as:
  • Lead Ontologist / Knowledge Engineer
• Strong expertise in:
  • Ontology design & semantic modeling
  • Knowledge representation principles
• Hands-on experience with:
  • Ontology modeling tools/frameworks
  • Knowledge graphs
• Strong knowledge of:
  • Metadata management
  • Information architecture
• Excellent:
  • Analytical skills
  • Communication & documentation skills

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience in:
  • Enterprise data architecture
  • AI/ML or semantic AI systems
• Exposure to:
  • Interoperability standards
  • Regulated environments (ITAR, NERC, etc.)
• Experience aligning with enterprise modernization roadmaps
