Natural/Adabas Database Administrator
Location: Remote (US-based) - Must come onsite to Columbia, SC for the first week
Duration: 12 months (with strong possibility of extension up to 8 years)

About This Opportunity
We're looking for an experienced Natural/Adabas Administrator to join our team and take ownership of our Software AG ecosystem. This is a chance to work with mission-critical databases, ensure top-notch security, and help optimize performance for a large-scale environment.
Important Note: You'll need to be onsite in Columbia, SC for the first week of your contract (at your own expense) for initial setup and orientation. After that, you're free to work remotely from anywhere in the US for the remainder of the contract.
What You'll Be Doing
• Keep things running smoothly: Administer Adabas databases and Natural Security across production, test, and dev environments. Handle backups, environment refreshes, and day-to-day maintenance.
• Lock down security: Manage role-based access controls, handle security reviews, process access requests, and maintain audit documentation to keep everything compliant.
• Enable data access: Work with tools like CONNX to help users extract and analyze data. You'll set up tools, create user guides, and train folks on how to work with the data.
• Manage changes carefully: Guide database and schema changes through dev, test, and production environments while keeping everything documented in the data dictionary.
• Tune performance: Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement improvements to keep things running efficiently.
• Support disaster recovery: Participate in business continuity and DR planning, testing, and exercises.
• Drive improvements: Research and recommend platform upgrades, modernization opportunities, and new tools to make the environment better.
What You Need to Have
• 8 years of hands-on experience managing Software AG Adabas and Natural in production environments
• Strong skills with Natural Security administration and configuration
• Experience with CONNX or similar data access tools (installation, configuration, user support)
• Solid understanding of backup/restore, environment refreshes, and performance tuning
• Experience implementing role-based access control and security audits in regulated environments
• Familiarity with SDLC/change control processes across multiple environments
• Knowledge of Software AG tools like NaturalONE, Predict, EntireX
• Experience with DDM management and maintaining data dictionaries
• Ability to write clear documentation and train users
Nice to Have
• Linux background (2 years preferred)
• Experience with capacity planning and platform modernization
• Background in business continuity and disaster recovery programs
Contract Details
• Start Date: ASAP
• Duration: 12 months initially, with potential for extension (project timeline is 8 years)
• Interview Process: Single round, virtual interview
• Work Location: Remote after first week. You MUST be available to come to Columbia, SC for the first 5 days at your own expense for onboarding.
