What are the responsibilities and job description for the AI/ML Applied Scientist II position at Infinia ML?
The Company
Infinia ML, based in the Raleigh-Durham area, is an AI company specializing in automating healthcare workflows. As part of Aspirion, a leading provider of complex claims and denials management services, we help hospitals and health systems reduce patient burden and maximize reimbursement.
Our platform leverages advanced machine learning to process critical documents—such as medical records, insurance claims, and correspondence—turning unstructured text into actionable insights. We combine the agility of a startup with the resources of an established healthcare leader.
The Role
We’re seeking an AI/ML Applied Scientist II to help shape the next generation of AI solutions in healthcare. In this role, you’ll design and deploy machine learning models and LLM workflows that drive real-world impact in document understanding and generation.
You’ll collaborate with scientists, engineers, and product teams on everything from data strategy to scalable integration—owning solutions from prototype to production. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to deepen their expertise in NLP and LLMs while applying their skills to meaningful problems in healthcare.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and evaluate machine learning algorithms and LLM workflows for document understanding and generation
- Curate, process, and manage large-scale healthcare data sets to support production-grade models
- Partner with product teams to develop use-case-specific solutions with measurable business impact
- Collaborate with engineers to integrate models into scalable, reliable systems
- Stay ahead of the curve by researching, testing, and applying emerging ML/AI methods
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience with Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Large Language Models (LLMs)
- Strong problem-solving ability: define data-driven problems, develop solutions, and evaluate results independently
- Proficiency in Python and key ML/NLP libraries (e.g., PyTorch, spaCy, Hugging Face transformers, NumPy, pandas)
- Ability to quickly prototype, refine, and validate solutions on real-world data
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across diverse teams
- Must be a U.S. citizen or Green Card holder
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in a quantitative field (computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, etc.)
- 3 years of experience in machine learning, data science, or computational software development
- 5 years of Python development experience
- Experience with Linux and software engineering best practices (e.g., Git, CI/CD, testing frameworks)
- Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud)
Work Environment
This is a remote-first role, with opportunities for in-person collaboration at our Raleigh-Durham headquarters.
