POSITION PURPOSE
The Budget Analyst is responsible for compiling, analyzing, and maintaining accurate financial and operating data and records. This position is also responsible for recommending to Finance leadership the establishment of new or modified reporting methods, standard operating procedures, or benchmarking criteria to improve financial performance and operational efficiencies. This position requires an on-going partnership with the other divisions within IndyGo, including budget review, large procurement tracking and planning, and project management support.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Analyzes and interprets financial and operational data, budgetary trends and historical data to identify and address any budget inconsistencies or errors and suggest improvements to maintain fiscal sustainability.
- Prepares clear reports and summaries that highlight performance and key findings.
- Identifies patterns and unusual trends in financial data to keep departments informed about potential issues or areas of success.
- Develops and maintains an understanding of essential systems (including the enterprise resource planning system of record).
- Reviews data entry and collection methods, recommending improvements to ensure accuracy and consistency across reports.
- Prepares reports for Management, including monthly updates for Division Directors, as well as ad hoc financial and budgetary reports. Responsible for assisting the Manager of Budgets with quarterly and annual financial and operational reporting to local, state, and federal stakeholders.
- Develops and maintains an understanding of budget processes and procedures in all departments to assist in long range budget planning.
- Develops and maintains an understanding of the organization’s funding sources and revenue streams.
- Collaborates with the Budget Team to review division budget reports, monitor expenditures and fund availability and provide recommendations to Finance leadership.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
- Provides data and statistical information to support other departments and outside agencies as needed.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
To perform this job successfully, an individual should possess the following education and/or experience.
- A bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, accounting, business administration, management, or a related field or equivalent combination of relevant education, certification or professional experience is preferred.
- Two (2) or more years of professional experience in budget analysis, financial analysis, accounting, or related finance functions preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

- Proficiency using a computer and related technology, including high proficiency with Microsoft Office, the internet, complex spreadsheets, and the structure of databases and query principles.

- Proven analytic ability, including the ability to communicate key performance indicators and trends clearly and succinctly in written and graphical formats.

- Proficient mathematical abilities (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, ratios, and fractions), including the ability to apply principles of algebra and geometry.

- Ability to monitor a budget, to track and control expenses and/or revenues, and to conduct financial analysis.
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage tasks and time effectively while adapting to changing reporting needs and deadlines.
- Must be able to adapt to learning new finance-related tasks and supporting emerging reporting needs as the team identifies opportunities for added support and evolving responsibilities.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
