Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Contract Project Controls / Planning Specialist to support a high-intensity multi-rig oil drilling program in Bakersfield, California. The project involves three active rigs, with an aggressive goal of drilling one well every two days.
This role will focus on detailed planning, schedule management, cost tracking, and performance monitoring throughout the project lifecycle. Candidates must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, field-driven environment with tight timelines and complex logistics.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, update, and maintain integrated project schedules using Primavera P6 or similar tools.
- Coordinate scheduling of drilling, logistics, procurement, and construction activities across three rigs.
- Perform cost tracking, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Generate daily/weekly progress reports, dashboards, and schedule updates for stakeholders.
- Analyze drilling performance and make schedule adjustments as needed to stay on target.
- Conduct risk assessments and scenario planning related to delays or operational constraints.
- Support look-ahead planning and resource allocation to meet program objectives.
- Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Drilling Engineers, Field Supervisors, and Supply Chain.
- Maintain planning documentation in alignment with project execution strategies and company standards.
Qualifications:
- 5 years of experience in project controls, planning, or scheduling in oil & gas—preferably with drilling programs.
- Proficiency in Primavera P6, MS Project, and Excel (advanced level required).
- Strong knowledge of drilling operations and field execution environments.
- Experience in cost control and earned value management (EVM) is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) concepts is a plus.
- Excellent communication, reporting, and coordination skills.
- Able to work on-site in Bakersfield, CA, with regular interface with field teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field is a plus, but not required.
Contract Details:
- Contract Type: W-2 or 1099 (negotiable)
- Duration: Estimated 12 months, with potential for extension based on project needs.
- Work Schedule: Full-time (minimum 5 days/week), with required on-site presence in Bakersfield, CA.
- Rate: Competitive hourly rate, based on experience and qualifications.
