Description
The Senior Functional Safety Engineer will be responsible for delivering functional safety work products in compliance with ISO 26262 (Part 5). The role focuses on safety analysis, reliability calculations, and validation support for automotive electronic systems. The engineer will work closely with system, hardware, and validation teams to ensure functional safety requirements and safety metrics are met throughout the development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver functional safety work products in accordance with ISO 26262 Part 5.
- Perform safety analyses including:
- Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
- Dependent Failure Analysis (DFA)
- Failure Modes, Effects, and Diagnostic Analysis (FMEDA)
- Interpret custom mission profiles and accurately calculate component FIT (Failure In Time) rates.
- Execute FMEDA activities using industry-standard tools such as Ansys Medini or Isograph.
- Support definition and verification of functional safety requirements and safety metrics.
- Develop test case specifications to ensure coverage of safety mechanism validation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address functional safety concerns and ensure compliance with standards.
- Document results clearly and provide technical input for reviews, audits, and assessments as required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electrical, Electronics, Automotive, Systems, or related discipline).
- 6-8 years of experience in Functional safety
- Strong hands-on experience with ISO 26262 functional safety, particularly Part 5 (Hardware Safety).
- Proven experience performing FTA, DFA, and FMEDA.
- Experience calculating reliability metrics and FIT rates based on mission profiles.
- Proficiency with Ansys Medini and/or Isograph tools.
- Solid understanding of automotive electronic systems and safety mechanisms.
Preferred Qualifications
- Functional Safety certification (e.g., TÜV or equivalent).
- Previous experience working in automotive OEM or Tier-1 supplier environments.
- Experience supporting safety validation and test planning activities.
