Benefits of Teaching in Indianapolis
- Flexible Teaching Locations: As an employee of an ITF Center Township school partner, Fellows have the unique flexibility to start their career at a school that fits their skills and interests. Wherever you teach, you will be working in a state that is recognized for being on the cutting edge of innovative education.
- Classroom-Centered Preparation: Fellows prepare to enter the classroom by participating in a six-week training experience. Where traditional teacher preparation leaves little time for hands-on skill-building, our innovative training is centered around actual teaching experience in summer school classrooms. Fellows practice core skills that they need to be successful on their first day of teaching and ground their pedagogy in culturally responsive teaching.
- Full Salary and Benefits: While pursuing certification and your Master of Arts in Teaching through the Klipsch Educators College at Marian University, Fellows work full-time at a district or charter school and will earn the same starting salary plus comprehensive benefits as a first-year teacher. You will start as the teacher of record for the 2026-27 school year. Starting salaries begin at approximately $53,460 plus comprehensive benefits.
- Certification: During your first two years as a full-time teacher, you will also complete certification coursework through our partnership with Marian University, where you will earn your certification and a Master of Arts in Teaching. You are responsible for Marian University’s tuition and fees, which total approximately $14,790 for the two-year program. You may be eligible for TNTP's AmeriCorps program to receive two consecutive education awards of $7,395 that can be applied to tuition. Fellows are also eligible to apply for Financial Aid.
- Educator Excellence Collective (EEC): The EEC seeks to provide wrap-around services for new teachers that address common barriers to entry and retention. In a Fellow's first year, EEC offers tuition assistance, social events, mentoring and personalized supports, and licensure exam preparation (where allowed). All Fellows are auto-enrolled in the EEC upon acceptance into the program.
