What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ride-Along position at Indiana State Police (IN)?
Participants shall be respectful of their assigned officer and follow all instructions given to them. Participants must abide by ride-along protocol.
Participants are expected to be neatly groomed and dressed in a professional manner. Appropriate dress is business casual unless otherwise informed based on the day’s schedule of events. Neck ties are not necessary and high-heeled shoes should not be worn while doing ride-along.

Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age;
- Must possess a valid driver's license;
- No juvenile or adult criminal arrests or convictions
- If approved, the person must be willing to follow all Department rules, regulations, SOP’s (to include dress code), and reasonable/lawful orders while participating in the program.
- Participants must complete BOTH pages of the Wavier of Liability and Acceptance of Risk form and attach it to their application along with a copy of their photo identification. Only attach what is requested, no other attachments are necessary.

No exceptions will be made for anyone not meeting all requirements.
RIDE-ALONG PROGRAM SCHEDULING :
Participants will coordinate their schedule with the district assigned. Participants should be mindful police work is a 24/7 job and may include evenings and weekend work. Weather and criminal incidents may also affect the schedule. Participants must be flexible to allow for changes accordingly.
PARTICIPANT SAFETY & SECURITY
Law enforcement by its very nature is an inherently dangerous profession. The Indiana State Police will take every possible precaution to ensure the safety of every ride along participant. No matter how well trained or prepared one is, circumstances arise where danger must be dealt with.
Every ride along participant must sign a waiver of liability from the Indiana State Police. The ride along participant is not “employed” by the Indiana State Police in any fashion, nor are he/she covered by the Indiana State Police insurance plan. The Indiana State Police will not be liable for the actions of the ride along participant acting outside the scope of the responsibilities defined or beyond the direction of the responsible Trooper they are assigned to.
Ride along participants will have no law enforcement authority. Ride along participants will not be armed. Ride along participants CANNOT carry any type of weapon, even with a valid permit.
