What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cancer Registrar (Oncology Data Specialist) position at Indiana Department of Health?
It is a full-time contract position, hybrid work schedule (3 days on site, 2 days remote) at the Indiana State Cancer Registry (37.5 hours a week).
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Conducts abstracting of reported cancer cases.
2. If already nationally certified as ODS, conducts data quality assurance in software SEER*DMS.
3. Files incoming cancer data reports from healthcare facilities (electronically stores faxed, mailed information).
4. Conducts death clearance followback (detailed guidance and orientation will be provided).
5. Conducts data pull for virtually pooled registry requests from the research community or national agencies for approved studies (guidance and orientation will be provided).
6. Updates cancer reproting healthcare facility contact information in software systems SEER*DMS, WebPlus.
7. Participates in developing registry policies and procedures to standardize operations (co-write SOPs under guidance).
8. Other tasks as assigned.
Job Requirements/Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree is required. Proficiency in using Microsoft Enterprise (Word, Excel, Teams) and ability to quickly learn and use new software systems. Ability to work independently. Ability to attend to detail and maintain accuracy and confidentiality. Knowledge of HIPAA compliance requirements. Desired: work experience in roles related to collecting and managing cancer data and national certification as ODS-C.
