Job Description

Indian River State College is seeking an Instructor, Clinical Coordinator for the Surgical Technology and Central Services programs to support high-quality clinical education and student success. This role works closely with the Program Director to coordinate student clinical rotations, maintain strong partnerships with healthcare facilities, and ensure students receive meaningful hands-on learning experiences.


The Clinical Coordinator also provides instruction, student advising, and clinical supervision while supporting accreditation standards and program outcomes. This position plays a key role in preparing students for certification and successful careers in surgical technology.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Clinical Coordinator supports the Surgical Technology and Central Services programs by collaborating with the Program Director to oversee all aspects of student clinical education. Responsibilities include managing clinical site partnerships, scheduling and supervising clinical rotations, maintaining student clinical records, and ensuring compliance with accreditation and program standards. The role also provides student advising, collaborates with clinical instructors, and may include didactic or lab teaching.


SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Duties and responsibilities associated with teaching a minimum of 36 semester hours annually: including lecture, lab, and clinical instruction.
  • Plan, coordinate and schedule student clinical rotations to align with curriculum, lesson plans, and program outcomes.
  • Coordinate evaluations of clinical sites, faculty/student experiences, and/or performance.
  • Evaluate and update performance objectives to ensure meaningful clinical learning experiences.
  • Adhere to all polices and guidelines established by the institution, school, department, affiliated partners, polices as described in the employee/faculty handbook, and any other directives and memoranda.
  • Communicate and validate policy updates, procedural changes, and clinical requirements to clinical instructor.
  • Ensure all students are prepared for each clinical rotation to provide a safe and professional learning environment, including any site-specific learning requirements prior to start.
  • Participate in process improvement and demonstrate adaptability to drive efficiency to improve student outcomes.
  • Conduct regular visits/rounding at clinical sites to provide instructor and student support to maintain strong academic partnerships.
  • Support student retention, persistence, credential preparation (CST), and successful job placement as Surgical Technologists/Central Services.
  • Assist with student recruitment, admission criteria processes, and implementation of the most current AST Core Curriculum for Surgical Technology and the most current curriculum for Central Services.
  • Participate in accreditation activities and support maintenance of program accreditation status.
  • Serve as an active member of the Program Advisory Committee and attend scheduled meetings.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director in clinical coordination, departmental planning, budget preparation, and program development.
  • Participate in department, college committees, projects, and initiatives as assigned.
  • Pursue ongoing formal training designed to maintain and upgrade his/her professional, instructional, and administrative capabilities.
  • Complete all other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • An Associate's Degree in any field
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited surgical technology program, hold a current NCCA‑accredited surgical technology credential, and have at least three (3) years of recent clinical or instructional experience in the field
  • Minimum of three (3) years of documented experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past five years.
  • Certificate or degree in Surgical Technology or Surgical Services from a regionally accredited college/university recognized by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program (CAAHEP)
  • Current credential in surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA), i. e. CST (NBSTSA) or TS-C (NNCT)
  • All instructors must meet the appropriate credentialing requirements by accrediting agencies
