Indian River County
Performs a variety of plan review, data reviews and collection and administrative functions pertaining to traffic engineering and operations. This is a technical position, working independently under the general direction of the County Traffic Engineer.
- Reviews Traffic Impact Studies for compliance with County code and traffic methodology and provides comments for review by the Traffic Analyst and/or Traffic Engineer.
- Reviews Site Plans and Offsite Roadways for compliance with County code, FDOT, and MUTCD for review by the Traffic Analyst and/or Traffic Engineer.
- Reviews Traffic Methodologies for compliance with County code and provides feedback to the Traffic Analyst and/or Traffic Engineer.
- Reviews data related to proposed developments to evaluate methods to improve safety and traffic flow and reports findings to the Traffic Analyst and/or Traffic Engineer.
- Prepares comments based on reviews related to Indian River County Codes and enters into CDplus.
- Attends preapplication, staff committee and technical review committee (TRC) meetings as requested by the County Traffic Engineer.
- Prepare graphs, charts, diagrams, maps, or other visual aids to illustrate observations or conclusions.
- Once certifications are attained, may performs fieldwork with Traffic Operations staff to include data collection, inspections, turning movement counts, etc.
- Prepare emails, correspondence, and reports as needed.
- Maintains files and records related to the above duties.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Associate's degree in engineering fundamentals or a related field supplemented by 4 years of working experience in traffic engineering, public works engineering, or civil engineering to include plan review. Related work experience in excess of 4 years may be substituted on a year for year basis for the degree requirement.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, & REGISTRATIONS:
- Must possess a valid Florida driver's license.
- Must possess or obtain within six (6) months of hire, a FDOT approved Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) Intermediate certification.
- Must possess or obtain within one (1) year of hire, a FDOT approved Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) Advanced certification.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Use of personal computers and specialized software such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Knowledge of associated Public Works review requirements.
Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and drawings.
Ability to work near vehicular traffic.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
Attention to detail and a willingness to conduct fieldwork as needed.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Work is performed inside an office environment. Periodic site visits are required which will involve working outdoors with exposure to heat, dust and inclement weather conditions.
