What are the responsibilities and job description for the Advancement Intern position at Independence Mission Schools?
Summary:
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic intern to join our Advancement team. The Independence Mission Schools (IMS) Summer Internship Program offers a dynamic, hands-on experience for students interested in nonprofit development, philanthropy, and mission-driven work. Interns will play an active role in advancing IMS’s efforts to provide a transformative Catholic education to students across Philadelphia.
Throughout the summer, interns will engage in meaningful projects across research, marketing, and alumni engagement, gaining exposure to the inner workings of a high-impact advancement team. You will have the chance to develop professionally in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Research and compile prospect profiles highlighting business affiliations, philanthropic interests, and relevant news.
- Analyze trends among current donors to support future program planning and outreach strategies.
- Create content to support marketing and communications efforts that will promote the Annual Fund and enhance IMS’s digital presence and audience engagement.
- Develop programming and action plan to inspire young alumni engagement and strengthen ongoing communication and relationships with the larger alumni community.
- Participate in individual meetings with members of the Advancement Team and key leaders from the Central Office.
- Collaborate with team members: Work alongside professionals in your department to brainstorm, plan, and execute projects.
- Prepare reports/presentations: Help compile data or prepare presentations for internal meetings or updates.
- Other duties as assigned: Take on additional tasks or special projects that provide learning opportunities.
Certification, Degrees, and Qualifications:
- Current enrollment in nonprofit management, business administration, marketing, communications, public relations, or finance. Students studying education, political science, sociology, or related social sciences may also find the experience valuable, particularly those interested in mission-driven work, philanthropy, or community engagement.
- Strong interest in nonprofit development, philanthropy, and advancing educational opportunity.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Google Suite or relevant software.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Additional requirements as needed, e.g., familiarity with social media platforms, coding languages, etc.
