Position Summary
The Behavior Specialist supports individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) by developing, implementing, and monitoring Positive Behavior Support Plans (PBSPs) rooted in evidence-based and person-centered practices. The role serves as a liaison between InCommunity and external behavioral service providers, ensuring all behavioral supports are consistent with Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) standards, Medicaid waiver requirements, and organizational policies. The Behavior Specialist promotes positive skill development, dignity, and quality of life for each individual served.

Essential Job Duties And Responsibilities
Behavior Support Services
- Conduct functional behavior assessments (FBAs) and develop individualized PBSPs based on data, environmental factors, and person-centered outcomes.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team (IDT) members to implement and regularly review PBSPs.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret behavioral data to assess intervention effectiveness and recommend adjustments.
- Train, coach, and model positive behavioral strategies and de-escalation techniques for Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), caregivers, and families.
- Ensure behavioral interventions are implemented with fidelity and documented per DBHDD, HIPAA, and agency standards.
- Serve as the primary contact for behavioral service coordination among external providers, case managers, and InCommunity teams.
- Review and validate behavioral documentation and provider assessments for accuracy and compliance.
- Facilitate integrated care planning through timely communication and collaborative problem-solving.
- Monitor contracted provider compliance with DBHDD, Medicaid, and agency quality standards.
- Coordinate behavioral consultations, site visits, and IDT meetings to ensure alignment of support strategies.
- Ensure all behavioral supports align with DBHDD and Medicaid waiver service definitions and ethical standards (e.g., BACB Professional and Ethical Compliance Code).
- Participate in internal and external audits, quality assurance reviews, and corrective action processes.
- Maintain detailed, timely, and accurate documentation of behavioral services, observations, and data analyses.
- Support continuous quality improvement initiatives through staff feedback, data review, and outcome reporting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Applied Behavior Analysis, Social Work, Special Education, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience supporting individuals with IDD in residential, day, or community settings.
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing PBSPs or behavior intervention programs.
- Working knowledge of Georgia DBHDD service standards and Medicaid waiver requirements.
- Valid Georgia driver’s license and current automobile liability insurance.
- Licensure or certification in one of the following (as applicable):
- Psychologist (OCGA 43-39-1)
- Licensed Professional Counselor (OCGA 43-10A-1)
- Licensed Master or Clinical Social Worker (OCGA 43-10A-1)
- Psychiatrist (OCGA 43-24-20)
- Registered Nurse (OCGA 43-26-3)
- Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BACB certification)
- Work performed in office, residential, and community environments with moderate noise levels.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, communicate, and reach; occasionally lift or move up to 50 lbs.
- Vision abilities include close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception.
