What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sr. Maintenance Millwright position at Incoa Performance Minerals?
Job Title: Senior Maintenance Millwright Location: Theodore, AL– On-site Job Type: Full-time Pay: $30-$35/BOE per hour, based on experience] Schedule: 12-hour Rotating Shifts, plus overtime and on-call as needed
INCOA Performance Minerals is seeking an experienced Senior Maintenance Millwright to keep our calcium carbonate manufacturing plant running safely and reliably. This is a senior, hands-on role for a seasoned tradesperson who has spent years maintaining heavy industrial process equipment in a plant environment.
You will troubleshoot and repair crushers, mills, classifiers, conveyors, bucket elevators, dryers, kilns, pumps, fans, blowers, and dust collection systems. You will also lead precision work, including ASME-code welding, laser shaft alignment, and vibration analysis, and help mentor less experienced maintenance staff.
This position is not suited for entry-level or apprentice candidates. Applicants must have documented senior-level millwright experience in an industrial plant setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on plant process equipment, including crushers, ball/roller mills, classifiers, screw and belt conveyors, bucket elevators, rotary dryers, pumps, fans, blowers, gearboxes, and baghouses.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical failures quickly to minimize downtime, working from root cause rather than replacing parts by trial and error.
- Fabricate, repair, and weld components to ASME code standards using SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, and GTAW processes on carbon steel, stainless steel, and abrasion-resistant materials.
- Perform precision shaft and coupling alignments using Easy-Laser, Pruftechnik, or SKF laser alignment systems, and document before/after results.
- Collect and interpret vibration data, identify faults such as imbalance, misalignment, looseness, and bearing defects, and recommend corrective actions.
- Rebuild and install bearings, seals, gearboxes, couplings, drive trains, and power transmission components to OEM specifications.
- Enter, close, and update work orders, parts usage, and equipment history in the CMMS; help build and refine PM task lists.
- Perform confined space entries (permit-required) into bins, silos, hoppers, chutes, and vessels as entrant, attendant, or supervisor.
- Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO), hot work, fall protection, and MSHA/OSHA safety requirements at all times.
- Read and work from blueprints, schematics, P&IDs, and equipment manuals.
- Lead planned shutdowns and major repair jobs; mentor and train junior millwrights and maintenance technicians.
- Recommend reliability improvements to reduce repeat failures and extend equipment life.
Required Qualifications
- 10 years of industrial millwright experience, with at least 5 years at a senior or lead level.
- Plant experience required: hands-on maintenance experience in a manufacturing, mineral processing, mining, aggregate, cement, lime, or similar heavy industrial plant environment. Construction-only or residential/commercial trades experience does not qualify.
- ASME-qualified welder with current certification(s) and the ability to provide documentation (e.g., ASME Section IX welder qualification).
- Certified in laser shaft alignment (Easy-Laser, Pruftechnik, SKF, or equivalent master-level alignment certification).
- Confined space trained and qualified for permit-required entry, with documentation.
- Vibration analysis experience, including collecting data and interpreting spectrum results (Vibration Analyst Category I or higher preferred).
- CMMS experience (e.g., SAP PM, Maximo, eMaint, Fiix, MP2, or similar) for work orders, PMs, and equipment history.
- Strong knowledge of bearings, gearboxes, pumps, couplings, seals, and power transmission equipment.
- Proficient in rigging, hoisting, and safe operation of overhead cranes, forklifts, and aerial lifts.
- Ability to read blueprints, mechanical drawings, and equipment manuals.
- Provides own journeyman-level hand tools.
- High school diploma or GED; completed millwright apprenticeship or journeyman card strongly preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in calcium carbonate, limestone, lime, cement, or industrial minerals processing.
- Vibration Analyst Category II certification (ISO 18436).
- MSHA Part 46 or Part 48 training.
- Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, and lubrication programs.
- Basic electrical troubleshooting knowledge.
- Machining experience (lathe, mill).
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Work in a plant environment with dust, noise, heat, and outdoor weather conditions.
- Lift up to 50 lbs regularly and work at heights, in confined spaces, and in awkward positions.
- Wear required PPE, including respirator (must pass fit test), hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toe boots.
- Available for overtime, weekends, call-ins, and shutdowns as needed.
- Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
