This role works closely with executive leadership, project teams, legal, safety, and insurance partners to protect the company’s financial position, ensure contractual compliance, and support successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Risk Identification & Analysis
- Evaluate project risks during pursuit and preconstruction (contract terms, site conditions, financial exposure, scheduling constraints)
- Conduct quantitative and qualitative risk assessments for large-scale projects
- Develop and maintain project risk registers and reporting frameworks
- Identify emerging risks across the portfolio (market, supply chain, labor, regulatory)
- Review and negotiate contract terms, including indemnity, insurance, and liability provisions
- Partner with legal counsel on dispute avoidance and resolution strategies
- Ensure alignment between contract obligations and operational execution
- Support claims management, including documentation and strategy development
- Oversee corporate insurance programs (GL, Builder’s Risk, Professional Liability, Workers Comp, OCIP/CCIP)
- Collaborate with brokers and carriers to structure project-specific insurance solutions
- Manage claims process from incident through resolution, minimizing financial impact
- Analyze loss trends and recommend corrective actions
- Work with project teams to proactively mitigate cost, schedule, and execution risks
- Participate in project reviews, audits, and risk committee meetings
- Support contingency planning and risk-adjusted forecasting
- Develop risk mitigation strategies for complex or high-profile projects
- Partner with Safety teams to align risk management with loss prevention initiatives
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory requirements
- Analyze incident data and support continuous improvement initiatives
- Collaborate with finance on risk exposure, bonding capacity, and cash flow impacts
- Support surety relationships and bonding strategy
- Evaluate subcontractor financial risk and prequalification processes
- Contribute to company-wide risk strategy and reporting to executive leadership
- Develop policies, procedures, and best practices for risk management
- Lead risk training initiatives for project managers and leadership teams
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Finance, Risk Management, or related field
- 7–15 years of experience in construction risk management, project management, or related discipline
- Experience with large commercial, industrial, or infrastructure projects preferred
- Certified Risk Manager (CRM)
- Associate in Risk Management (ARM)
- Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS)
- Deep understanding of construction contracts (AIA, design-build, EPC)
- Strong knowledge of insurance structures and risk financing
- Financial acumen with ability to assess project-level exposure
- Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to influence operations without direct authority
