Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Project Estimator role based in Downers Grove, IL. The Project Estimator will review customer drawings, specifications, and RFQs to prepare accurate cost estimates and proposals for precision gear manufacturing projects. Responsibilities include analyzing materials, labor, tooling, and machining time; developing detailed bills of materials; and collaborating with engineering, production, and sales to validate assumptions and optimize cost-effective solutions. The role involves preparing budgets, tracking estimate-to-actual performance, and updating costing models to reflect process improvements and current pricing. The Project Estimator will also communicate with suppliers to obtain quotes, clarify technical requirements, and ensure estimates align with quality standards, delivery expectations, and company profitability goals.
Qualifications
- Strong cost analysis skills, including Cost Management and Budgeting, to develop accurate and competitive project estimates.
- Experience in Project Estimation and or similar industrial/manufacturing estimating) to assess scope, resources, and timelines.
- Effective Communication skills to collaborate with internal teams, suppliers, and customers, and to present estimate assumptions clearly.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes (machining, gearing, CNC, or related) and the ability to read technical drawings and blueprints.
- Proficiency with estimating tools and spreadsheets (e.g., Excel) and comfort working with ERP (Epicor)or costing systems.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple quotes and deadlines.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering, manufacturing technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience in estimating.
- Prior experience in a precision machining, gear manufacturing, or industrial environment is preferred but not required.
