Position Overview
The Lead Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing and implementing the company’s safety program across all projects to ensure a safe and compliant work environment. This individual will provide leadership in safety management practices, enforce OSHA regulations, and promote a culture of safety throughout the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve the company’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct site audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify hazards and ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards.
- Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses; develop corrective action plans.
- Provide training, mentorship, and support to field personnel and project teams on safety procedures and protocols.
- Maintain all safety-related documentation and reporting in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies during inspections or inquiries.
- Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, and foremen to plan and maintain safe job sites.
- Track and analyze safety metrics and trends; provide regular reporting to senior leadership.
- Lead safety meetings and toolbox talks.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
- 5 years of progressive safety experience in heavy civil construction, excavation, or related industries.
- OSHA 30-hour certification required; CHST, CSP, or other safety certifications strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and travel to job sites as required.
