A well-established, privately held site development contractor based in North Carolina (coastal) is seeking a Chief Financial Officer to join its executive leadership team. The company specializes in private sector site development, including grading, utilities, excavation, and infrastructure for commercial and residential projects.

This is a confidential search for a key executive leader who will play a critical role in strengthening financial systems and partnering directly with ownership and operations.
Role Overview
The CFO will serve as a strategic and hands-on financial leader responsible for all accounting and finance functions. This role is fully on-site working closely with ownership, project management, and field operations to drive financial performance and business strategy.
The ideal candidate will bring strong construction finance experience along with the ability to operate in a fast-moving, privately held contractor environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all financial operations including accounting, ERP Implementation FP&A, and reporting
- Oversee job costing, WIP reporting, and project profitability analysis
- Manage cash flow, forecasting, and working capital optimization
- Maintain and expand banking, bonding, and insurance relationships
- Develop and strengthen financial controls, systems, and reporting processes
- Partner directly with ownership and operations to improve margins and decision-making
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning
- Oversee and develop accounting and finance staff
- Support strategic initiatives including growth planning and operational improvements
Qualifications
- 10 years of progressive financial leadership experience (CFO, Controller, or VP Finance level)
- Strong background in site development, heavy civil, or construction contracting
- Deep understanding of job costing, WIP accounting, and construction financials
- Experience managing banking relationships, bonding capacity, and credit facilities
- Strong leadership skills with ability to operate in a hands-on, on-site environment
- Excellent communication skills with strong executive presence
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
