Data Center Engineer

Our client has engaged us to assist them in hiring a contract Data Center Optical Engineer. Hourly pay range: $41.00/hour

Job Responsibilities

• Perform break-fix and remote hands support, including nights and weekends as needed
• Rack, stack, cable, label, and decommission data center equipment
• Install and troubleshoot fiber and Ethernet (SM/MM fiber, CAT5/CAT6, LC, RJ45, fan-outs)
• Perform optical testing and turn-ups using OTDR, power meter, and VFL
• Test 10G and 100G circuits using BERT, RFC2544, Y.1564, and iPerf
• Assist with card-level troubleshooting and hardware replacement
• Support site audits, cable assignments, and documentation
• Work with AC/DC power, ATS, redundant feeds, and hot/cold aisle environments
• Oversee third-party vendors onsite when required
• Follow MOPs, engineering documentation, and hyperscale safety standards

Job Requirements

• 3–5 years in data center operations, optical transport, or network field work
• Strong hands-on experience with fiber and structured cabling
• Strong hands-on experience with optical testing and troubleshooting
• Strong hands-on experience with racking, stacking, and decommissioning
• Comfortable working in hyperscale or large enterprise data centers
• Ability to work shifts, including nights and weekends as needed
• US Citizenship required

Nice to Have:

• Team lead or site lead experience
• Exposure to telecom transport or IP networks
• Experience supporting multiple workstreams simultaneously
