Why this opportunity is worth a conversation
This is a small, veteran-owned aerospace and defense manufacturer with over a decade of steady growth. The quality function here is not a compliance checkbox — it is central to how the company delivers products that perform in demanding military and aerospace environments. For a quality professional who has been working in a narrow role at a larger organization, this is a genuine opportunity to own the function more broadly across inspection, process development, and quality system compliance.
The team is lean and the culture is direct. You will work closely alongside engineering and production leadership to identify issues, build better processes, and keep programs on track. The company is flexible on background for the right candidate — hands-on quality experience, sound judgment, and the ability to operate independently matter more than credentials. Minimal travel and a stable, mission-driven environment round out the picture.
What you will be doing
- Performing quality inspections and in-process sampling to ensure product and process compliance
- Developing and documenting practical testing and inspection processes to support production and engineering
- Identifying areas for quality improvement and driving corrective action to completion
- Reviewing and updating quality policies and procedures against current standards
- Supporting AS9100D / ISO 9001 quality system maintenance, documentation, and internal audits
- Ensuring compliance with applicable health, safety, and regulatory requirements
- Partnering directly with engineering and operations to support program execution and quality outcomes
What we are looking for
- 4 years of hands-on quality experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment
- Working knowledge of quality management tools — inspection, auditing, corrective action, and documentation
- Ability to develop and implement straightforward testing and inspection processes independently
- Strong written communication skills — report writing and quality documentation are regular responsibilities
- Organized and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities without close supervision
- Bachelor's degree in a technical field preferred — equivalent direct experience considered
Strong pluses (not required):
- AS9100D or ISO 9001 experience — aerospace or defense environment preferred
- Familiarity with military or aerospace manufacturing standards
- Internal auditor certification or equivalent quality credentials
- Experience supporting both quality and engineering functions in a small company setting
