Job Description:
Plans and performs preventative maintenance and emergency repairs on plumbing systems. Maintains the backflow preventer preventative maintenance.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair skills
- Knowledge of steam, water, and natural gas distribution systems maintenance and repair
- Ability to lead others in troubleshooting and emergency repairs
- Ability to develop and implement planned maintenance programs
- Ability to read, understand, and follows safety procedures
- Demonstrates the ability to use a personal computer and various software programs applicable to the position
- Exhibits the ability to deal effectively interdepartmentally & with the public
- Exhibits the ability to maintain confidentiality, think and act independently with minimal supervision
- Exhibits proficiency in blue print reading and building code interpretation; including knowledge of NFPA 99 and NFPA 101
- Demonstrates high quality workmanship
- Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance at the assigned job location.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES
- Possession of a current Oregon Journeyman Plumber license
- Backflow Certified
- High school diploma and/or equivalent preferred
- Completed Maintenance III competencies as set forth by the department.
- Current Oregon driver’s license
EXPERIENCE
- A minimum four (4) years’ experience plumbing at the journeyman level.
- Experience diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing problems associated with: cast iron drains, steam piping, steam valves, steam traps, heat exchangers, domestic hot and cold water lines, hot water heat pumps, chilled water pumps, and sump pumps
- Experience with backflow device certification and rebuilding
- Working knowledge of but not limited to the following: boilers, generators, elevators, pumps, firefighting equipment, compressors, drills, grinders, pipe threader, air-flow meters, temperature meters, drain cleaners, scaffolding, pipe benders, welding equipment, various plumbing tools, carpentry and construction tools, pneumatic devices, HVAC equipment, small engines, digital controllers, hand held radios communication devices, vacuum pumps, medical gas equipment, autoclaves, pressure regulators and other equipment associated with building maintenance
