SUMMARY
The Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator primary role is to develop, train and implement health and safety plans, policies and practices aimed at achieving a zero-harm working environment and culture. Serving as an enthusiastic champion, the role works towards employee safety commitment and not just regulatory compliance. The person in this role takes ownership of and exercises diligent oversight of the occupational safety function and reports metrics and KPI’s as required. Fully bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develops and implements proactive programs to foster a culture of safety and accountability while ensuring compliance with all OSHA, federal/state/local laws and general industry standards.
Communicates the Company’s safety vision and values with team members to ensure understanding, compliance and acceptance of the Company’s safety programs and policies.
Ensures safety & health training and documentation meets or exceeds both Company and regulating entities requirements while preparing team members to safely perform tasks and jobs.
Collaborate with management and department heads to establish and maintain a comprehensive safety training program for all employees, including Lift Truck, Lock Out Tag Out, Blood Borne Pathogen, General Safety Inspections, MSDS, PPE, and Hazardous Communication.
Implements and maintains an effective incident investigation process that exposes and identifies root causes, then formulates corrective actions to abate exposure.
Drives continuous safety improvements, audits work areas, reviews incident reports and recommends enhancements to eliminate or reduce risk exposure.
Creates and conducts organizational-wide safety meetings and safety training, as applicable.
Ability to lead through influence and networking while working with cross functional teams.
Updates and maintains required reporting mechanisms in an accurate and efficient manner, including MSDS and OSHA 300/301.
Must also be able to work independently, motivated to achieve daily goals and objectives without direct supervision.
Adheres to and supports all applicable safety and GMP practices while performing job duties.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related field.
Minimum of 3 – 5 years demonstrated history of designing and implementing safety programs, preferably in a food manufacturing environment.
OSHA 500, CSP certification preferred, but not required.
Excellent knowledge of OSHA CFR’s, federal, state, and local regulatory standards applicable to general industry.
Bilingual in Spanish strongly preferred.
Skilled at making verbal and written presentations and communicating with others.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office Suite of products.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
There are no supervisory responsibilities with this role.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Performs basic database updates, queries and searches, and printing of documents. Fluent in posting/updating opportunities on various regulatory or reporting websites.;
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to communicate with co-workers and/or read instructions or written standards for production in English. Bilingual in Spanish is strongly preferred.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to perform or learn basic mathematic skills as needed, such as basic accounting terminology.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out basic step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or limited variables.
