Our Client, a Public Utility that provides natural gas and electricity to the majority of Michigan's 10 million residents is seeking a talented and self-driven individual for needs serving in the role of Technical Writer.
This role is responsible for creating, maintaining, and improving clear, accurate, and user‑friendly standard work documentation. This role partners closely with subject matter experts (SMEs), operations leaders, and continuous improvement teams to capture best practices, ensure consistency, and support operational excellence, quality, safety, and compliance.
The ideal candidate has strong technical writing skills, a solid understanding of process documentation, and experience translating complex procedures into clear, visual, and standardized work instructions.
Standard Work Documentation:
Develop, edit, and maintain standards, procedures, and work instructions. Translate complex processes into clear, concise, and repeatable documentation. Ensure standard work reflects current-state processes, best practices, and regulatory requirements.
Collaboration and Process Capture:
Partner with subject matter experts (SMEs) to observe processes and accurately capture work steps. Facilitate workshops, interviews, and process walk-throughs to gather technical content. Work closely with Lean, Quality, Engineering, and Operations teams. Support change management by updating documentation following process improvements.
Visual and Digital Content:
Develop visual aids such as process maps, flowcharts, visual work instructions, etc. Use diagrams, photos, and other visuals to improve clarity and usability. Manage documentation within document control or knowledge management systems.
Quality, Compliance, and Continuous Improvement:
Ensure documentation complies with quality standards, safety requirements, and internal controls. Support audits by maintaining accurate, controlled, and traceable documentation Identify gaps, redundancies, or improvement opportunities in existing standard work. Measure and improve documentation effectiveness based on user feedback.
