Duties

  • Plan, organize, and facilitate diverse youth activities including arts, sports, educational games, and outdoor adventures to promote development and teamwork
  • Supervise children during program hours ensuring their safety through effective child supervision and behavior management strategies
  • Implement classroom management techniques to maintain a positive and inclusive environment for all participants
  • Provide first aid and respond appropriately to medical emergencies following established protocols
  • Collaborate with team members to develop tailored programs that meet the needs of children with varying abilities, including those requiring special education support (with assistance)
  • Maintain accurate attendance records, activity logs, and incident reports; communicate regularly with parents or guardians regarding children’s progress or concerns
  • Uphold all safety standards by adhering to first aid protocols, CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), AED operation procedures and child care regulations
  • Effectively and proactively communicate with all team members, be the liaison for our program and school staff, and provide transparency with our enrolled families
  • Administrative tasks include taking inventory, updating our team calendar, scheduling, and other tasks to support daily operations
  • Facilitate daily team huddles and coordinate the execution of daily operations by ensuring supplies are in stock and staff members are aware of their role
  • Take pictures and videos for promotional purposes during program hours
  • Possess the ability to pivot when necessary by troubleshooting a situation and communicating with the team
  • A variety of tasks, similar in nature to the ones above, to fulfill program goals

Qualifications

  • Proven experience working with children in educational, childcare, camp, or youth program settings; outdoor work experience is a plus
  • Strong classroom management skills coupled with behavior management expertise to foster respectful and engaging environments
  • Certification in First Aid, CPR, and familiarity with first aid protocols; additional certifications in special education or childhood development are advantageous
  • Demonstrated ability to lead youth group activities such as sports coaching, theater arts, tutoring sessions or babysitting roles involving young children
  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with team members and engaging effectively with children and parents
  • Experience in early childhood education or childhood development programs preferred; teaching experience with young children highly valued
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions while maintaining high energy levels and enthusiasm for activities
  • Our program operates inside of SDP buildings. Clearances and certifications are required and must be approved before joining our team
  • A previous role in communications or team leadership is required.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be reliable and arrive to work on time
  • Lead by example through positive direction
  • Available Mon-Fri from 2pm-6pm on the SDP academic school schedule
  • Possess organizational, time management, and strong communication skills
  • Have worked with children between 5-10 yrs. old for a minimum of 1 year OR possess a 2 year degree related to childcare
  • Be physically active for the duration of a 4 hour shift including but not limited to standing, walking, going up and down stairs, and lifting up to 30 lbs
  • Work in various elements of weather
