Business Development Support
The Business Development Intern provides research, coordination, and content development support across Illumen’s Business Development (BD) portfolio. Responsibilities include general BD activities, opportunity tracking, presentation support, and SBIR-related tasks as applicable. This position supports proposal development, solution discussions, and BD process management under the direction of the BD supervisor.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development Support
- Conduct research on federal opportunities, agencies, competitors, and industry trends.
- Assist with maintaining and updating BD pipelines, trackers, and shared documentation.
- Prepare summaries, briefs, and decision support materials for BD leadership.
- Coordinate meeting preparation, notes, and follow-ups as assigned.
- Monitor SBIR schedules, topic releases, and guidance across participating agencies.
- Review and summarize SBIR topic areas and solicitation requirements.
- Assist in preparing early-stage concept notes or solution drafts.
- Support SBIR-related documentation and coordination when program activity is active. Note: SBIR workload will vary based on federal program funding and release schedules.
- Assist with drafting, editing, and formatting proposal components, including capability statements, resumes, and technical summaries.
- Support the creation of PowerPoint presentations and visual materials for internal and customer-facing meetings.
- Maintain version control, templates, and presentation files in alignment with BD processes.
- Organize files, documentation, and shared BD resources within established systems.
- Assist in quality checks, formatting reviews, and document finalization.
- Support special projects and BD initiatives as assigned by leadership.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to review, organize, and summarize complex information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint and Word required).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage assigned tasks.
- Interest in business development, government contracting, innovation programs, or related fields.
- Preferred: Familiarity with SharePoint, Canva, basic data analysis tools, or technical reading.
- Exposure to federal BD processes, capture activities, and proposal development.
- Experience supporting SBIR activities in conjunction with general BD responsibilities.
- Participation in solutioning discussions and access to mentorship from BD and leadership team members.
- Skill-building in research, writing, presentation design, and federal opportunity analysis.
