The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) is committed to equity and excellence, including the active recruitment of students from all areas of Illinois. IMSA’s PROMISE Program addresses the unique challenges of culturally, linguistically, and economically diverse (CLED) students who have an interest in STEM education by providing academic enrichment programming at low to no cost. This grant-funded program is open to all students, especially Black or African American students, Latinx students, students who qualify for the national free or reduced-price meal program, and students from rural Illinois counties. The PROMISE Program consists of three grade-based experiences.
Specifically, IMSA is seeking teaching candidates in various academic disciplines for the 2025 PROMISE - SEAMS Program, serving rising 9th grade students statewide in Illinois during the summer. In this program, candidates will work with students that have varying academic backgrounds.
Responsibilities
Program Dates and Details:
- June 21-29, 2025
- Expected work hours are 8:00AM - 4:00PM
- Instruction runs from June 23rd through the 28th. Additionally, teachers are asked to attend the closing ceremony on Sunday, June 29, 2025.
Teaching Schedule:
- Four 90 minute class rotations each day. Estimated schedule:
- Class 1: 8:50 am-10:20 am
- Class 2: 10:30 am- 12:00 pm
- Lunch Break
- Class 3: 12:50 pm- 2:20 pm
- Class 4: 2:25 pm- 3:45 pm
Expectations:
- Develop a daily lesson plan. Depending on the subject a curriculum may be provided, but there is plenty of flexibility to incorporate your own lessons.
- Lead lectures and hands on activities with assistance from student tutors
- A minimum of one summative assessment given to classes
- Completion of feedback form for each program participant
- Maintain a safe, respectful, and encouraging environment for participating students.
Other information:
- Faculty will have the assistance of IMSA student tutors that you can assist in leading/facilitating small group activities.
- Faculty are invited to help chaperone a planned trip to the Museum of Science and Industry
Qualifications
This position pays $44.00/hr. This position is not benefits eligible.
