World Language Teacher-(Middle School)

Summary: Under the general supervision of the School Director, to develop student's knowledge, skills, and abilities in comprehending, speaking, reading, and writing a language other than English, and to develop an understanding and appreciation of the native culture of the countries where the language is the primary means of communication.

Compensation: Base $66,500, Experience $200 per year, Advanced Degree-Masters $3,000; PHD $5,000. Comprehensive Benefits: Health (Medical, Vision, Dental), Short Term Disability, AAE, & Pension.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required. (Masters preferred)
  • New Jersey Certification as a world language teacher in the particular language taught.
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of the use of various technological software and equipment for tasks such as, but not limited to, word processing, data management, information retrieval, visual presentations, and telecommunications.
  • Understand the requirement to maintain confidentiality concerning charter school-related matters.
  • Knowledge of child growth and development, individual differences in ability, personality, and interests, and learning/motivational techniques.
  • Knowledge of the identified language, in terms of grammar, word usage, word denotations and connotations, and literature.
  • Successful prior foreign language teaching experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation about performance and professional growth.
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of grade-specific school curriculum and concepts, including all subject matters taught.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work; parents, students, faculty, etc.
  • Prior to employment, the following must be addressed:
  • Required to complete a criminal history background check to prove that the individual has not been convicted of a crime or a disorderly person's offense.
  • Provide evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonable accommodation according to 42 U.S.C. 12101 and by N.J.A.C. 6A:32-6.2.
  • Pass the state-required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test as required by N.J.A.C. 6A:32-6.3.

  • Occasionally requires work outdoors dealing with school activities.

Essential Performance Responsibilities The World Language Teacher fosters a safe and supportive classroom environment; designs and delivers standards-aligned curriculum and engaging lessons; teaches language skills including comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, composition, communication, and cultural understanding; assesses student progress and adapts instruction to meet diverse learning needs; prepares students for literary publications and academic opportunities; maintains accurate records and reports in compliance with district and legal requirements; communicates effectively with students and families; upholds classroom management standards; collaborates with colleagues and participates in professional development; and selects, maintains, and inventories instructional materials and resources.

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the School Director and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Experience: Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.

Equipment: Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

Travel Requirements: Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Certification/License: Valid NJ Teacher Certification-Relevant to the Foreign Language such: as Spanish, French, Turkish, German, Korean, etc.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

Works in standard office and school building environments.
