PRIMARY PURPOSE:

This Job is in Boise Idaho: Safety Manager serves as the expert on safety practices and regulations across multiple sites throughout California, providing strategic leadership and guidance on the implementation of Injury Illness Prevention Program (IIPP). This role entails collaboration with corporate/regional leadership, site management teams, support groups, customers, subcontractors, and field personnel at various levels, ensuring a unified approach to safety across the region. As the key point of contact for safety matters, the Safety Manager spearheads the adoption and management of Safety Performance Indicators across all sites under their jurisdiction.

 

TYPICAL DUTIES:

  • Oversee and provide strategic direction for the safety programs across multiple sites, ensuring cohesive and consistent implementation of the IIPP and site-specific safety plans.
  • Demonstrate technical and professional expertise in safety regulations and codes, applying this knowledge to develop regional safety strategies.
  • Serve as a visible and proactive leader in safety matters, fostering a culture of safety and compliance through mentoring, training, and engaging with employees and clients across the region.
  • Conduct regular safety audits across sites, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions to mitigate risks.
  • Ensure all sites comply with regulatory and company standards for training verification, safety documentation.
  • Assist in conducting thorough incident and injury investigations, working closely with site personnel to identify root causes and implement corrective actions. This role involves coordinating the investigation process, ensuring comprehensive documentation, and facilitating the development of strategies to prevent future occurrences.
  • Actively participate in and lead safety steering committees at the regional level, driving safety initiatives and improvements across the board.
  • Manage the regional safety personnel, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to support safety business needs.
  • Maintain strong communication and collaboration with client safety teams to align safety agendas and ensure seamless operation across all sites.

 

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE EDUCATION & SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred. High school education/equivalent required.
  • Minimum of seven years' experience in safety management within the petrochemical or a related industry, with a proven track record of improving safety performance across multiple sites.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA (Federal and State) regulations and the ability to apply these regulations across a diverse range of operational environments.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to effectively manage cross-functional teams and projects.
  • Availability to respond to safety emergencies and incidents as required, including on-call responsibilities.
  • Proficiency in computer software, including Microsoft Office Suite, and the ability to quickly adapt to new technologies.
  • Fluent in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to travel extensively across the region to various site locations.
  • Must be capable of wearing standard PPE and able to conduct field visits, including walking on uneven terrain and climbing stairs/ladders.
  • Ability to pass background and drug tests, fit test and site training requirements, and maintain a valid driver's license.
