The General Manager is responsible for overseeing the overall operations, growth, profitability, and strategic direction of a heavy transport, crane services, and construction company. This leadership role manages daily business operations, project execution, safety compliance, workforce performance, customer relationships, and financial performance while ensuring all projects are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in heavy haul transportation, crane operations, construction project management, and industrial services, with proven leadership in managing field operations, personnel, equipment, and client relations.


Key Responsibilities

Operations Management

  • Oversee all company operations related to heavy transport, crane services, rigging, and construction activities.
  • Manage project scheduling, manpower allocation, equipment utilization, and logistics coordination.
  • Ensure projects are completed safely, on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Develop and implement operational strategies to improve productivity and efficiency.
  • Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, dispatchers, and field crews to maintain smooth operations.

Safety & Compliance

  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture throughout the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, FMCSA, state, and local regulations.
  • Oversee safety programs, training initiatives, incident investigations, and corrective actions.
  • Ensure proper maintenance, inspections, certifications, and permitting for cranes, trucks, and heavy equipment.

Financial Management

  • Manage company budgets, forecasting, cost controls, and profitability.
  • Review project financials, labor costs, equipment costs, and operational expenses.
  • Work with accounting and executive leadership to improve financial performance and reporting.
  • Identify opportunities for business growth and operational savings.

Business Development & Client Relations

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, vendors, and industry partners.
  • Support estimating and proposal development for transportation, crane, and construction projects.
  • Identify new business opportunities and market expansion strategies.
  • Represent the company in meetings, negotiations, and industry events.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop management staff and field personnel.
  • Establish performance expectations and accountability across departments.
  • Support hiring, training, employee retention, and workforce development initiatives.
  • Foster a positive and professional work environment focused on teamwork and operational excellence.

Equipment & Asset Management

  • Oversee fleet and equipment management, including cranes, trucks, trailers, and support equipment.
  • Ensure preventative maintenance programs are followed to maximize equipment reliability and uptime.
  • Evaluate equipment needs, purchases, rentals, and replacement planning.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Business Management, Engineering, Logistics, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of management experience in heavy transport, crane services, construction, or industrial operations.
  • Strong knowledge of heavy haul logistics, crane operations, rigging practices, and construction operations.
  • Experience managing large crews, multiple projects, and complex operational schedules.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA, DOT, and FMCSA regulations.
  • Proven leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage budgets, financial reporting, and operational KPIs.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and project management or dispatching software.


Preferred Qualifications

  • NCCCO certification knowledge or crane industry experience.
  • Experience in industrial, refinery, power, infrastructure, or large commercial construction projects.
  • CDL or transportation industry experience is a plus.
  • Bilingual communication skills are beneficial.


Work Environment

  • Combination of office and field environments.
  • Frequent visits to job sites, construction projects, and customer locations.
  • May require travel and extended work hours depending on project demands.

Salary : $160,000 - $180,000
